On May 26 (local time), the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Chile solemnly held a memorial service and opened a condolence book in memory of former President Tran Duc Luong.
In a solemn atmosphere, Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong and all staff of the Embassy, Trade Office and Defense Attaché Office of Vietnam in Chile and his family observed a minute of silence to commemorate former President Tran Duc Luong.
Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong's condolence book opening reads: "Comrade Tran Duc Luong left many important marks in the cause of building a rule-of-law state, expanding foreign relations and enhancing the country's position. The diplomatic marks he left will forever be a source of inspiration and motivation for generations of Vietnamese diplomats. The Vietnamese Embassy in Chile respectfully bows before the spirit of the comrade, vowing to follow his shining example."
After the opening of the condolence book, representatives of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chilean Communist Party, the President of the Chile-Vietnam Friendship Cultural Institute, and many Ambassadors and Heads of diplomatic missions in Chile visited and signed the condolence book in memory of former President Tran Duc Luong, including Ambassadors from China, Japan, Korea, Germany, Serbia, Egypt, Algeria, Peru, as well as representatives of the Embassies of Russia, Ukraine, Malaysia, Panama, Indonesia, Philippines, India, South Africa, Dominican Republic, etc. The Chilean Socialist Party, along with the Embassies of several countries in Chile such as Italy, Iran, Argentina, Palestine sent letters of condolence.

Writing in the condolence book, Japanese Ambassador Takako Ito shared: “Former President Tran Duc Luong made great contributions to the development and international integration of Vietnam. Vietnam’s accession to APEC and successful hosting of the ASEM Summit are typical examples of the results he has achieved.
During his term as President, the friendly relations between Japan and Vietnam were also firmly consolidated, creating favorable conditions for many Japanese enterprises to invest in Vietnam. History will always remember him as a strong, honest and talented leader, devoted to the Vietnamese people and always striving to enhance Vietnam's position and relations in the international arena."

Chinese Ambassador Niu Qingbao emphasized: “Comrade Tran Duc Luong is an important leader in Vietnam's Doi Moi process. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for his great contributions to the China-Vietnam friendship.”
German Ambassador Susanne Fries-Gaier signed the condolence book. |
German Ambassador Susanne Fries-Gaier wrote in the condolence book: "During his term as President, he opened an important period in Vietnam's history, leading the country to great socio-economic achievements, which still bear their mark today. I would like to express my deepest condolences to his family and all the Vietnamese people at this moment of sorrow."
“We deeply appreciate your important contributions to strengthening Russia-Vietnam relations. Under your leadership, the bilateral relations were upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership. We would like to express our deepest condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam, as well as to your family and relatives,” wrote Vladimir Finyutin, Counselor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation.

On behalf of the Chile-Vietnam Friendship Cultural Institute, President Patricia Aburzua expressed: “We are moved to remember the anniversary of your reception of President Ricardo Lagos, the first Chilean President to officially visit Vietnam. We would like to express our special solidarity with the Vietnamese Government, the Communist Party and all Vietnamese people in this moment of sorrow.”
The funeral and condolence book opening ceremony was held at the Vietnamese Embassy on May 26-27.
