( Bqp.vn ) – On the occasion of attending the 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum in Beijing (China), on the afternoon of September 13, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, had bilateral meetings with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Chansamone Chanyalath; Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Tea Seiha and Mongolian Minister of National Defense Byambatsogt Sandag.

At the bilateral meeting with General Chansamone Chanyalath, the two Ministers expressed their satisfaction with the results of cooperation between the two Ministries of National Defense since the beginning of 2024, including cooperation in building 2 village clusters and surveying locations for building 3 new village clusters in the Vietnam - Laos border area. The two sides also discussed a number of key bilateral defense cooperation areas in the coming time, especially promoting the signing of the Protocol on defense cooperation between the two Ministries of National Defense for the period 2025 - 2029; preparing to organize the second Vietnam - Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange in Son La province (Vietnam) and Houaphanh province (Laos) in October 2024. General Phan Van Giang requested the Lao Ministry of National Defense to pay attention and direct relevant agencies to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese side to carefully prepare and successfully organize this meaningful event.

At the bilateral meeting with General Tea Seiha, the two Ministers discussed and evaluated the results of defense cooperation in the past time and made proposals on the content of cooperation in the coming time. The two sides agreed to closely coordinate to implement a number of cooperation focuses such as: Maintaining delegation exchanges and cooperation mechanisms; strengthening cooperation between border management and protection forces; implementing programs for young officer exchanges and young leader exchanges of the two countries' armies; assigning agencies of both sides to actively coordinate in developing a Protocol on defense cooperation for the period 2025 - 2029. General Phan Van Giang suggested that Cambodia continue to coordinate and effectively support in searching for, collecting and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia during the war.

During a meeting with Mongolian Defense Minister Byambatsogt Sandag, General Phan Van Giang expressed his belief that Vietnam and Mongolia celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year is an important milestone for the two countries to continue to strengthen cooperation in all fields, including defense cooperation. The two sides agreed to actively implement the cooperation contents agreed upon during General Phan Van Giang's official visit to Mongolia in October 2023, focusing on the following areas: military technology, defense industry, education - training, United Nations peacekeeping, etc.

During the above bilateral meetings and sideline contacts, General Phan Van Giang respectfully invited leaders of the Army and defense industry enterprises of the countries to attend the second Vietnam International Defense Exhibition in Hanoi in December 2024.
