For more than a month now, on hot days, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Ha, a nursery worker at Lao Cai Urban Environment Joint Stock Company, and her colleagues have had a different work schedule than usual: Morning from 5:30 am to 10:30 am; afternoon from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm (starting work earlier and ending work later). Due to the nature of outdoor work, Ms. Ha and the nursery workers have been given favorable conditions by the unit, arranging working hours to avoid the hottest times of the day to ensure their health. In addition to being provided with protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, masks, and heat-resistant gloves, the workers also equip themselves with mini fans attached to their protective clothing to help cool their bodies while working.

Lao Cai Urban Environment Joint Stock Company currently has more than 100 workers working in the nursery and mechanical workshop departments. These are the departments most affected by the hot weather. Mr. Pham Van Tien, Deputy Director and Chairman of the Company's Trade Union, said: The unit's trade union has consulted and provided adequate labor protection equipment and adjusted working hours for workers. Every year, before the hot season, the trade union advises the employer to review and rearrange the factory system. In particular, the unit focuses on checking and reviewing to replace, repair or install new cooling equipment and ventilation fans, and at the same time adding water tanks in different locations; installing nets to create shade, limiting direct sunlight affecting workers; proposing to increase food rations and distribute nutritional milk to workers...

The Electromechanical Repair Branch, Apatit Vietnam One Member Co., Ltd. also has more than 100 employees working on repairing machinery and specialized equipment in the mining industry and mechanical processing. The working area is a large factory, covered with corrugated iron roofs, the equipment often generates heat during operation, making the air on summer days even hotter.

Before entering the hot season, the union coordinated with experts to inspect the cooling equipment to propose repairs or additional installations. For the factory area, in addition to equipping high-capacity industrial fans, the unit also installed additional cooling fans in many different locations to serve workers during the production process; for outdoor working areas, specialized sunshades and mobile fans were arranged.

Therefore, the branch pays special attention to the nutrition and rest regime for workers during the summer. Accordingly, when the hot season begins (around April every year), the unit has purchased more coolers and organized the cooking of black bean water to distribute to workers in groups and teams. The unit cooks and distributes an average of about 20 - 25 liters of cooling water to workers each day, while also investing in and building a nearly 200 m2 canteen and installing air conditioning and fans. Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Head of the Cold Lathe Team, Electromechanical Repair Branch, said: The unit renovated and arranged lunch break rooms for workers, with an area of about 40 m2/room, fully equipped with air conditioning for workers to rest and restore their labor before entering the afternoon working hours...
Contributing to taking care of workers in hot weather, during this time, trade unions at all levels in the province have consulted and coordinated to implement measures to protect against the sun and the health of workers, especially those who often have to work outdoors or in areas with high temperatures (houses, processing plants, mechanical manufacturing or industrial production).

Accordingly, before entering the hot season, the units have organized inspections, rearrangements, and re-planning of production areas, and at the same time conducted inspections, maintenance, or new installations of automatic water spray systems, cooling fans, and air conditioners; ensuring that 100% of work locations have air conditioners or high-capacity fans. The units supplement drinking water, cooling water, and nutritional milk for workers and laborers. Depending on production and business conditions, the units also adjust working hours flexibly, especially for outdoor work units, avoiding high temperatures during the day that can easily cause heatstroke and heat shock for workers.

Union officials of the units also propagate and instruct workers and laborers on health protection measures during hot days, and at the same time encourage workers to do a good job of cleaning the workplace, ensuring ventilation, coolness and cleanliness. During shift meals, union officials also coordinate to build a menu with additional suitable dishes to help workers cool down and have a better appetite. In addition, from the welfare fund, many enterprises in the province also organize tours and vacations for workers during the summer to encourage them.
The implementation of useful and timely sun protection solutions demonstrates the concern of units and businesses for the health of workers and laborers, helping them to work enthusiastically, ensuring progress, quality, and requirements of production and business, and long-term commitment to the business.
