According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , candidates only have about one week left to register for university admission. Avoiding unnecessary mistakes to avoid failing at the "89th minute" is what education experts especially remind candidates.

Must do

According to Director of the Department of HigherEducation Nguyen Thu Thuy, there is still a very large percentage of candidates who have not registered their admission wishes in the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Ms. Thuy said that this could be because candidates are still considering and have not yet decided on their wishes, but it could also be because some candidates have been admitted through the early admission method of the schools and mistakenly think that they do not need to register their wishes on the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

“I would like to emphasize that registering for admission to the system is mandatory. Candidates who have been admitted through the early admission method at schools but do not register to the general system will not be officially admitted. This is a mistake that candidates encountered during the 2022 university admission season,” said Ms. Thuy.

The Director of the Department of Education and Training said that requiring all candidates to register their admission wishes on the common system of the Ministry of Education and Training is to ensure the highest benefits for them. Accordingly, each candidate can register an unlimited number of wishes, arranged in order of highest priority from wish one. The system will consider each candidate to pass only one wish and that will be the highest priority wish for which they are eligible.

Therefore, a candidate can be admitted early to 10 schools, but they can only study in 1 major, 1 school, the remaining 9 positions will be reserved for other candidates. This is also the system's way of filtering out the number of fake candidates and giving positions to other candidates in the queue later.

“Those are the advantages of the Common Admission Support System, and at the same time create the highest opportunities for candidates,” said Ms. Thuy.

Be careful and do the right thing

At a recent major selection consultation program held at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, a worried parent said that his child had registered for admission but when he checked later, he found that the information was no longer saved in the system.

Associate Professor Nguyen Thu Thuy said there could be two reasons for this situation, first is that the candidate did not complete the procedure, second is a system error.

“We have provided a hotline number so that candidates can contact us promptly if there is a system error. However, I think the reason is probably because candidates have not completed the registration process and have not completed it, so the system has not saved the data. Please note that you must complete the process and use the 'Complete' (submit) button so that the system can record the adjustments and changes you have just made,” Ms. Thuy said.

Sharing from practical experience in admissions, Associate Professor Nguyen Phu Khanh, Vice Principal of Phenikaa University, a common mistake when registering for admission last year was confusing the major code, school code, admission combination code, admission method... Therefore, Mr. Khanh advised candidates to be careful in every step when registering.

To minimize confusion among candidates, in this year's university admission season, the Ministry of Education and Training has adjusted the system to be more convenient for students. Accordingly, candidates do not have to register for admission methods or admission combinations, but only need to provide maximum information data, the system will automatically filter the most optimal admission methods and combinations that students can be admitted.

“For example, a major considers many combinations, based on the candidate's graduation exam score, the system will consider the candidate's total score according to all the combinations that the major considers to maximize the student's chance of passing,” shared Director of the Department of Higher Education Nguyen Thu Thuy.

Do not register too few wishes.

Statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training also show that about 72,000 candidates only registered for one wish.

According to Ms. Thuy, this shows that students may be very confident with their scores, or they have been admitted through the early admission method and put this choice above their first choice. However, there may still be risks when the standard score of that major may be higher than the candidate's score, or some students have been admitted with conditions but did not carefully study the preliminary conditions, so when checked, they failed.

Previously, in the 2021 university admission season, the whole country had 165 candidates with exam results of 27 points or higher (for a combination of three subjects), of which 3 students achieved a total score of over 28 points, but failed the university entrance exam. The main reason was that the candidates only had one wish.

“Therefore, we advise candidates not to register too few wishes to avoid risks,” Ms. Thuy said.

Consulting candidates on the admission strategy, Associate Professor Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said that because the number of wishes is unlimited and competition is entirely based on scores, candidates should put their favorite wishes first and gradually reduce the priority level in the following wishes.

Candidates should not put all their wishes in top schools to avoid the risk of failing all their wishes, but should arrange their wishes in descending order according to the benchmark scores referenced from previous years./.
