'I was sleeping when my mom came in and said I got 3 perfect scores in math, physics, and chemistry. The teachers also checked my scores and knew them before me, so they called to congratulate me,' said the valedictorian of group A00.

At the beginning of grade 12, An took the IELTS test and got 8.0. An also took the Hanoi National University's aptitude test in 2025 and scored 123/150, only 7 points away from the top spot.

Believed to be valedictorian while... sleeping

Nguyen Thai An, a 12B1 student at Kim Son A High School ( Ninh Binh ), scored 10 points in math, physics, and chemistry, and is one of the 8 valedictorians of block A00 this year.

Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , An said that this morning she did not watch the exam scores but "slept in" after days of studying.

"I was sleeping when my mother came in and told me that I got 10s in math, physics, and chemistry and became valedictorian. The teachers also checked my scores for me and found out before me, then called to congratulate me," An said.

An said he was not surprised with the total score of 30/30, because he had compared the answers with the Ministry of Education and Training before and already knew the result.

During the high school graduation exam, An finished the test 15 minutes early, then reviewed it. "There were two probability questions in the short answer section of math that I found a bit difficult," An said.

For physics and chemistry, An thinks that it is not too heavy on calculations, if the knowledge is solid, it can get high scores.

"To study well, I have to grasp the knowledge right from class, and for the weak parts, I study with my teachers at school and online. In the days before the graduation exam, I don't review much, I just study the questions I'm not sure about," An said.

An said he plans to apply for the pharmacy major because he feels the major is suitable for his abilities and "somewhat quiet" personality.

Was the valedictorian of the 10th grade entrance exam

Mr. Dinh Cao Thuong, An's homeroom teacher and math teacher, said that An was the valedictorian of the 10th grade entrance exam at Kim Son A High School.

As the class monitor, An's grades are above 9. In the mock exams, An is always in the top so the teachers have high expectations.

"I was surprised by the three perfect 10s, but not surprised that An got a high score," said Mr. Thuong.

Ms. Le Thi Lan Anh, vice principal of Kim Son A High School, shared that the school is very happy and proud of student Nguyen Thai An.

According to Ms. Lan Anh, during the 3 years of studying, An has always shown good performance in studying. The difference of An is that when being selected for the gifted student team, he chose chemistry as his weakest subject to receive tutoring from teachers.

"So An won the encouragement prize in chemistry, but he accumulated more knowledge and achieved the results he has now," said Ms. Lan Anh.

She said An was also the first student of the school to become the national valedictorian. Previously, the school had many provincial valedictorians in blocks A00 and B00.
