A corner of Nam Du

Nam Du belongs to two island communes An Son and Nam Du. This is the farthest archipelago of Kien Hai district ( Kien Giang province), more than 80km from Rach Gia city by sea, still quite wild. Nam Du with 21 large and small islands, forming a beautiful ecological complex in the middle of the Southwest sea of the Fatherland .

At exactly 7:20 a.m., the Ngoc Thanh ship departed Rach Gia, tearing through the water and heading out to the vast Southwest sea. The ship passed Hon Tre and then docked at Hon Son to disembark some passengers, then continued its journey to Nam Du.

Nam Du Wharf is crowded with tourists

The Nam Du archipelago gradually appeared, prominent, towering, and majestic in the middle of the vast, windy Southwest sea. The ship blew a long whistle and arrived at Nam Du port at exactly 10:30. Passengers with luggage and relatives eagerly "landed" on Cu Tron island (the main island of the Nam Du archipelago). From the port, passengers took a motorbike taxi to their motels, and in the afternoon they could start walking around and exploring Nam Du.

Rent a motorbike for 150,000 VND/day, drive around the island, the mountain pass road is more than 9km long, winding close to the sea cliffs with very interesting scenery. On one side is the mountain forest. On the other side is the blue sea, the waves lapping, splashing white foam.

Cay Men Beach

Bai Cay Men is the most beautiful beach in Nam Du that tourists must stop at. The beach is crescent-shaped, with pure white sand, as soft as powder, and along the beach are rows of tall green coconut trees, swaying in the fresh, cool sea breeze. Tourists can immerse themselves in the clear, turquoise water, splashing around,…

Leaving the poetic Cay Men beach, tourists go a short distance and stop at Nam Hai Ngu Than palace on the mountainside overlooking Ngu beach, which is as beautiful as a painting.

At Nam Du beach, according to Mr. Le Quoc Xoàn, when storms No. 10, 11, and 12 of 2017 raged, a "fish god" (meaning whale) "dyed" and drifted to Ngu beach.

Fishermen collected all the whale bones and brought them to Nam Hai Palace for preservation. The whale skeleton is over 15m long with complete bones of the head, ribs, spine, shoulder blades, fins, tail,...

According to folklore, when the sea is stormy, the whale often anchors and brings sinking ships and boats to safety. Therefore, coastal people highly respect this fish.

Royal Beach

On the second day of the trip, guests rent a small boat for 250,000 VND/day or 150,000 VND/half day to visit the islands of Nam Du. First, the boat will take guests to Hon Dau after 15 minutes of leaving Hon Cu Tron wharf.

Hon Dau is a small island covered with primeval forest. On Hon Dau Island there is a beach about 100m long, golden sand with rows of green coconut trees. The beach here has two parts. In the shallow sand near the shore, you can freely play and immerse yourself in the clear blue water.

A little further out is a colorful coral reef, which is also home to many marine species. You wear diving goggles to watch the coral and catch sea urchins. There are quite a lot of sea urchins here, you only need to dive for a few minutes to catch a whole basket. Sea urchin intestines cooked into porridge is an attractive culinary dish that is "delicious, nutritious, and cheap". Hon Dau is still pristine, the island is like an undiscovered sea paradise.

Leaving Hon Dau, the boat crossed Hon Ngang. Hon Ngang is a small island but very busy and crowded, because the sea fish farming industry is very developed here. Cobia and grouper from Hon Ngang are popular with diners.

Cages, ships, and fishing boats gather together, looking from afar like a floating city in the middle of a wild, majestic sea.

Tourists visit Bai Dau island

About 3 nautical miles past Hon Ngang, the boat arrives at Hon Mau. The boat anchors about 100m from the West beach, passengers take a small boat to the shore, step onto a pebble beach with thousands of small stones of various colors and beautiful shapes.

Crossing the island's waist about 80m, visitors will be surprised and overwhelmed by an immense space with countless white-capped waves chasing each other onto the pristine white sand beach hidden under rows of green coconut trees leaning over to reflect their reflection... Enjoy swimming in the sea, then go ashore, enjoy the breeze, and eat fresh seafood, processed on the spot such as crabs, fish, squid, snails,...

A very attractive activity for young tourists who love to explore and take risks is diving to see corals. Diving to see corals in Nam Du is a wonderful experience to explore the beauty of the ocean with colorful coral reefs and rich marine ecosystems.

At night, tourists go to Nam Du port to stroll around and see the seafood shops. Some "delicious" dishes such as sea urchin porridge, grilled oysters, steamed squid eggs with ginger, stone crab, blue bone fish, grouper, and sip with a few glasses of beer. Tourists watch the night sea with hundreds of sparkling lights of ships, boats, and fishing rafts diligently making a living at sea,... to feel the peace and love the beautiful and wonderful Southwest sea and islands even more!/.
