In September 2016, while digging a well, a family living in a small village in the city of Rivne, Ukraine, accidentally found a lot of amber blocks underground. When everyone in the village heard the news, they immediately came to see.
They knew that amber was something that could be exchanged for a lot of money, even though they had no idea what its effects or benefits were. For many, this was the first time they had seen what amber really looked like.
Amber is a fossilized tree resin from the Stone Age, it is yellow like beeswax and valuable in medicine or jewelry. Raw amber blocks are sold by the kilogram, but after being processed into jewelry or prepared into medicine, its value becomes very high and is priced by the gram.

Hearing the news, the village suddenly became bustling. Villagers, from old to young, all grabbed hoes and shovels and started digging. Digging for a day, some people earned about 300 USD. Traders also came to the place to buy amber. They were willing to pay on the spot for anyone who found amber. The rich even hired excavators to dig faster.
However, the land was seriously dug up, more than 15 hectares of forest were destroyed due to excessive digging, the protective forests will take hundreds of years to recover. Faced with this situation, the local government was forced to intervene and issue a ban on people digging for amber, causing environmental damage.
