The production of seedlings and ornamental plants is thriving, linked to the formation of cooperatives, production groups, and input-output linkages.
Accordingly, during the 2021-2025 period, the agricultural sector received comprehensive investment and development, linked to the development of agricultural product value chains. To date, there are 89 cooperative groups, 82 cooperatives, and 4 liên kết groups participating in the value chains of key agricultural products such as: coconut chain, green pomelo chain, rambutan chain, longan chain, durian chain, mango chain, seedling and ornamental plant chain, shrimp chain, pig chain, and cattle chain. Agricultural production activities are gradually shifting from small-scale, fragmented production to horizontal and vertical linkages within the chain, associated with production according to clean and safe standards, building geographical certification, product trademarks, and traceability...
Currently, the province has 26,905.7 hectares of cultivated land producing crops according to organic, GAP, and equivalent standards. To date, the province has 32 domestic growing area codes with a total area of 814.75 hectares; 206 export growing areas with 349 codes covering an area of 9,613.07 hectares; and 34 packaging facility codes granted to 16 businesses exporting to the US, New Zealand, Europe, China, Thailand, etc. Fruit trees are being transformed towards specialized cultivation, with high-value specialty crops serving the export market; value chains for green pomelo, rambutan, seedlings, and ornamental plants are developing strongly, linked to the formation of cooperatives, production groups, and input-output linkages.
Many fruit tree varieties in the province are being converted towards specialized cultivation, focusing on high-value specialty crops for export.
Simultaneously, the provincial Department of Agriculture has selected 112 superior mother trees, 769 superior mother tree gardens, and 31 mother coconut gardens, totaling 3,315 trees; 14 mangosteen gardens with 1,003 trees; and 3 mother hog plum gardens with 472 trees. The Cho Lach Seedling and Ornamental Plant Center has been established, and to date has selected 159 superior mother trees and 940 superior mother tree gardens, achieving 75% of seedlings originating from certified superior mother tree gardens that meet quality requirements.
The development of the marine economy has achieved positive results, with high-tech shrimp farming increasingly developing. It is estimated that by the end of 2025, the area of high-tech shrimp farming will reach 4,100 hectares, achieving 102.5% of the plan. Registration codes have been issued for 2,382 establishments/2,785 hectares, contributing to the traceability of shrimp products; simultaneously, data is being operated and updated into the "Map4D GIS Platform" software for the digitization and management of high-tech shrimp farming in Ben Tre province.
In addition, during the period 2021-2025, the agricultural sector also recorded a number of difficulties and challenges such as saltwater intrusion in the early months of 2021 and the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic; and some diseases affecting crops and livestock, especially the black-headed caterpillar pest affecting coconut trees.
