The project “A New Life for Waste” will be implemented from March to May 2025 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to raise awareness about plastic waste among young people, and to recycle plastic waste into useful products to donate to disadvantaged students.
The project involved over 3,700 students and teachers from six secondary schools: Ngo Si Lien, Nam Tu Liem, Nguyen Du, Quang Trung, Nguyen Truong To (Hanoi), and Binh Hoa (Cu Chi, Ho Chi Minh City). The activities were coordinated seamlessly between GNI and the schools, creating a positive impact within the school community.

The project consists of two phases: equipping students with knowledge and practicing plastic waste sorting. In the first phase, students learn about plastic pollution, the sorting process, and participate in activities such as flag-raising ceremonies, classroom awareness campaigns, and thematic workshops. In the second phase, they practice sorting waste at the source, compete in collecting plastic waste weekly, and decorate the waste collection area with environmental protection messages.
Specifically, the Junior Environmental Club was established in schools to sustain the movement, spread green actions, and guide friends to participate. After 3 months, more than 1,000 kg of clean plastic waste was collected. This waste was recycled into keychains and 60 sets of student desks and chairs, which will be donated to a school within GNI's project area at the beginning of the next semester.

Sharing her thoughts at the event, Trinh Anh Nhi, a 7th-grade student from Ngo Si Lien Secondary School, said: “Before, I thought trash was just something to throw away. After the project, I understand that if we know how to sort and process it, trash can become a useful resource. I learned many new skills such as teamwork, presentation, and critical thinking. These skills have helped us become 'green ambassadors,' spreading the message of environmental protection to our families and communities.”
"The more we participated, the more we realized we weren't alone because there were so many other students who also cared and were willing to take action for the environment. And then, we started to want to become part of a larger group, where the spirit of green living spreads even more strongly," Anh Nhi added.
