For children to have a safe and rewarding summer

In recent years, many educational institutions have effectively implemented the smart swimming pool model to equip students with basic swimming skills and prevent drowning, helping them have a safe and rewarding summer.

Smart swimming pools are usually mobile swimming pools that are flexibly installed on campus; becoming the optimal solution foreducational institutions that do not have the conditions to build a permanent swimming pool (lack of space and budget). This model helps students have the opportunity to access swimming right at school to exercise, improve physical fitness and have healthy entertainment after stressful school hours.

In 2020, La Van Cau Primary School (Ea Kar District) invested in a smart swimming pool with a total cost of 750 million VND (funded by the Da Nang City Disaster Prevention Community Fund and counterpart funds from the Ea Kar District People's Committee). To effectively exploit this facility, the school has integrated swimming into the main curriculum (Physical Education). Thanks to that, the number of students who can swim at the school has increased from 69 (2020-2021 school year) to 137 in the 2024-2025 school year.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Quan, Principal of La Van Cau Primary School, said that after each course, teachers will test and issue certificates of completion of the swimming course to students. This is a form of encouragement and recognition of the students' progress, helping them to be more confident and love this sport .

Hoang Thi Nhu Y (5B grade student, La Van Cau Primary School) excitedly said that after only 3 weeks of swimming lessons at school, she passed the 25m swimming test and was awarded a certificate by the school. Nhu Y also learned many skills on drowning prevention, injury prevention, etc.

The school campus does not have enough space to build a permanent swimming pool, so Phan Chu Trinh Primary School (Buon Ma Thuot City) installed a mobile swimming pool at the school in 2024. Since then, many students have learned to swim after short summer courses. Nguyen Van Ngoc Anh (4B grade student, Phan Chu Trinh Primary School) said that in the summer of 2024, he learned to swim at the school's mobile swimming pool and learned to swim breaststroke and crawl. This summer, Ngoc Anh set a goal of learning how to swim for survival.

In fact, summer is the ideal time to teach life skills to students. In early June 2025, Phan Chu Trinh Primary School (Buon Ma Thuot City) launched the Summer for Children 2025 Launch Ceremony with many meaningful activities such as: organizing swimming lessons to prevent drowning; propaganda on injury prevention, traffic safety; skills for safe use of electricity, etc.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Principal of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School (Buon Ma Thuot City) shared that through summer activities, the school wants to convey the message of care and concern to students and parents to help them have a safe and rewarding summer. Attentive physical and mental care is the best preparation for the new school year 2025-2026 and for the comprehensive and long-term development of children. Students who want to learn to swim can register to participate at the school. The school also offers free swimming lessons to students in difficult circumstances.

Along with teaching swimming, teachers will integrate the work of preventing accidents, injuries, and drowning for students through specific, guiding activities. According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Quynh, a Physical Education teacher at La Van Cau Primary School (Ea Kar District), children need to learn all the skills to protect themselves before assisting others. Specifically, they need to perform sequential warm-up exercises on land, learn to swim, and focus on survival swimming skills to be able to save themselves before waiting for others to save them. Then, they learn how to handle specific situations (how to handle when encountering drowning people, first aid, etc.) to practice when needed and become young communicators to spread the message of preventing drowning and accidents in families and residential areas.

Dr. Le Thi Thao, Head of the Department of General Education and Vocational Education - Continuing Education (Department of Education and Training) emphasized that this summer is the time when the whole country is building a two-level local government. In July, kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools will be under the management of the commune. Therefore, the sector has developed a detailed, specific plan that covers all activities with the hope that students will be cared for, looked after, and protected carefully to have a safe and rewarding summer.
