At the 10th National Farmers Forum 2025: The Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers Association and the Minister of Industry and Trade - Listening to Farmers Speak, themed "Connecting Markets - Building Brands - Promoting Agricultural Product Consumption, Contributing to Double-Digit Economic Growth of the Country," organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers Association in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Vo Quan Huy - Director of Huy Long An Co., Ltd., stated that he mainly grows bananas for export, with an annual growth rate of 10-15%.
In 2025, Mr. Ut Huy expects to achieve export turnover of approximately 25 million USD. However, according to Mr. Huy, exporting agricultural products to other countries currently requires very high standards regarding growing areas, farming areas, packaging facilities, etc. In terms of markets, traditional markets including China, the US, Japan, and the EU are becoming increasingly saturated with more stringent requirements. Meanwhile, consumer trends prioritize clean and green products, requiring the agricultural sector to invest in changing equipment and technology to meet these requirements.
Mr. Huy raised the issue: "I understand that government ministries have been negotiating for many years to export pomelos to China, and it's now the third year without success. Meanwhile, the area planted with pomelos nationwide is very large, with the potential to generate billions of dollars and 'share the burden' with the rapidly growing durian industry."
Next, Mr. Vo Quan Huy suggested that the Ministry of Industry and Trade develop policies to promote the processing of agricultural and forestry products in major raw material areas to reduce seasonal harvesting pressure and encourage processing to serve diverse markets, such as Halal, not just the Chinese market. Along with that, he proposed developing policies to create capital sources for the development of the solar energy market.
Mr. Huy also suggested that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association and Dan Viet Newspaper continue to hold forums to find solutions to address the issue of funding for green agricultural development. "Currently, banks have a lot of money, but the disbursement procedures for farmers are still difficult. Furthermore, promoting macrobiotic diets is a growing trend in Vietnam and globally," Mr. Huy said.
Regarding the issue raised by Mr. Vo Quan Huy (Long An), Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam said that, concerning pomelos, last year he accompanied the Minister and the Minister of Commerce of China, and they raised the issue of pomelos and avocados that needed to be resolved soon.
"Currently, we are prioritizing the expedited procedures for the official export of pomelos and avocados. The Chinese Customs inspection team has also come to survey the area and is basically finished; we are currently drafting the Protocol. However, the process of finalizing the Protocol will take several months. Hopefully, we will officially open the Chinese market to these two fruits early next year," Mr. Nam said.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment added that the Chinese market is becoming increasingly stringent, allowing only 1-2 products per year, and the process is very strict, so we will have to choose priority products, starting with pomelo and then avocado.
Immediately after Mr. Tran Thanh Nam's response, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized: "I request that the relevant departments of the Ministry of Industry and Trade expedite the process and immediately send a letter to the Chinese Minister of Commerce. The letter must be completed this October to accelerate the process of drafting the Protocol, aiming to shorten the timeframe as much as possible for Vietnamese pomelos and avocados."
Responding to the issue raised by Mr. Vo Quan Huy, the Director of the Electricity Department, Pham Nguyen Hung, stated that regarding the installation of rooftop solar power, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has drafted a Decision of the Prime Minister to issue a policy supporting households installing rooftop solar power systems for self-production and self-consumption, and electricity storage systems in individual houses.
Installing rooftop solar power systems offers many benefits, especially cost savings and reduced production costs. The draft submitted to the Prime Minister proposes that farmers be able to borrow capital from policy banks for three years at preferential interest rates, and receive support of 2-3 million VND for installation costs. Our farmers, already exemplary in production, should continue to be exemplary in applying science and technology, utilizing this unlimited energy source to reduce costs and make our agricultural products truly green and meaningful.
