At the 10th National Farmers' Forum in 2025: Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and Minister of Industry and Trade - Listening to farmers speak, with the theme "Connecting markets - Building brands - Promoting agricultural product consumption, contributing to the country's double-digit economic growth", organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Vo Quan Huy - Director of Huy Long An Company Limited said that he mainly grows bananas for export, with an annual growth rate of 10-15%.
In 2025, Mr. Ut Huy expects to achieve an export turnover of about 25 million USD. However, according to Mr. Huy, currently, exporting agricultural products to other countries requires very high standards in terms of growing areas, farming areas, packaging facilities, etc. In terms of markets, traditional markets including China, the US, Japan, and the EU are increasingly saturated with more difficult requirements than before. While the consumer trend is prioritizing clean, green products, the agricultural sector must invest in changing equipment and technology to meet these requirements.
Mr. Huy raised the issue: "I know that the ministries have been negotiating for many years to export grapefruit to China, now in its third year, but have not been successful. Meanwhile, the grapefruit growing area in the country is very large, with the potential to earn billions of dollars and "share the burden" for the hotly growing durian fruit."
Next, Mr. Vo Quan Huy recommended that the Ministry of Industry and Trade develop a policy to develop agricultural and forestry processing in large raw material areas to reduce the pressure of harvest seasons, promote processing to serve diverse markets, such as Halal, not just the Chinese market. Along with that, develop a policy to create capital sources to develop the solar energy market.
Mr. Huy also recommended that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association and Dan Viet Newspaper continue to open forums to find solutions to remove capital sources for investment in green agricultural development. "Currently, banks have a lot of money, but disbursement procedures for farmers are still difficult. In addition, propaganda about the macrobiotic program is an increasingly growing trend in Vietnam as well as globally," said Mr. Huy.
Regarding the issue raised by Mr. Vo Quan Huy (Long An), Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam said that regarding grapefruit, last year he accompanied the Minister and the Minister of Industry and Trade of China and raised the issue that grapefruit and avocado must be resolved soon.
"Currently, we are prioritizing the early settlement of procedures for the official export of two types of fruit: grapefruit and avocado. The inspection team of the Chinese Customs has also come to survey and basically completed it, and is currently drafting the Protocol. However, the process of completing the Protocol will take a few months. Hopefully, early next year, we will officially open the door for these two types of fruit to enter the Chinese market," said Mr. Nam.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment added that the Chinese market is increasingly tight, with only 1-2 products allowed each year, and the process is very strict, so we will have to choose priority products, first grapefruit and then avocado.
Immediately after Mr. Tran Thanh Nam's answer, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized: "Request relevant departments of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promote and immediately send a letter to the Chinese Minister of Commerce. This October, the letter must be completed to promote the process of making the Protocol, to shorten the time as quickly as possible for Vietnamese grapefruit and avocado."
Also responding to the issue raised by Mr. Vo Quan Huy, Director of the Electricity Department Pham Nguyen Hung said that regarding the installation of rooftop solar power (RTP), the Ministry of Industry and Trade has drafted a Decision of the Prime Minister promulgating a support policy for households to install self-produced, self-consumed RTP and electricity storage systems in individual homes.
Installing solar power brings many benefits, especially saving costs and production costs. In the draft submitted to the Prime Minister, it will be proposed that farmers can borrow capital from policy banks for 3 years with preferential interest rates; support from 2-3 million VND for installation costs. We farmers have been exemplary in production, so we also need to continue to be exemplary in applying science and technology, taking advantage of this unlimited energy to reduce prices, save costs, so that our agricultural products are truly green and meaningful.
