To let amateur music enter the tourism space

Researcher and composer Nham Hung has just published the book “Don ca tai tu in the tourism space” (Literature Publishing House). Besides an overview of the formation and development of Don ca tai tu (ĐCTT), introducing famous singers and musicians, the highlight of the book is that the author has suggested many models and good ways for ĐCTT to enter the tourism space.

In the first part, author Nham Hung took readers back to the origins of ĐCTT, learning about scales, modes, instruments and ĐCTT pieces, besides introducing the space for ĐCTT playing in the early days. In addition, the author also painstakingly researched the process of combining ĐCTT with the service and tourism sectors, from ancient times. In the part "Famous musicians - Famous amateur singers of the past: going to restaurants - recording records - going on stage", the author selected and introduced portraits of famous musicians such as Sau Tung, Nam Co, Bay Ba, Van Vy; famous singers such as Co Ba Tra Vinh , Co Ba Ben Tre, Co Nam Can Tho, Co Bach Hue...

Through experience and surveys at many tourist destinations in the West, researcher Nham Hung painstakingly analyzed the strengths of each location and model. The author commented: “In general, the results are not high, the position of DCTT products in the tourism space is still modest and unstable. The most obvious bottleneck is that the organization of DCTT practice is still lacking in attractiveness and appeal to tourists.”

The book's major contribution is to add ideas and solutions to bring ĐCTT into the tourism space more effectively. According to the author, it is necessary to unify the perception and viewpoint that no matter what environment it operates in, it is necessary to preserve the original value of the heritage. Some suggested models such as ĐCTT on a van following long-distance tourists, a guitar and one or two amateur singers can also arouse the interest of tourists; or designing a tour "Full moon night in the garden" in the suburbs, "ĐCTT on the flooded fields"...

Going deeper into the profession, author Nham Hung suggests writing a very interesting "ĐCTT show" script. First of all, the composer needs to choose the topic and theme according to the taste of tourists and the service context. Like the cải lương show, the "ĐCTT show" can interweave many amateur and folk songs, combine singing and acting, the content is linked into a continuous story, with a concise, attractive structure, and cheerful colors. Author Nham Hung gives a model: A "ĐCTT show" has 2 scenes, scene 1 has 2 layers including the introduction and problem setting; scene 2 has 2 layers including the development and resolution of the story. The characters in the show have 2-3 roles, the duration is about 10-15 minutes. In addition, the book also has specific and detailed suggestions on using the script and literary language when writing "ĐCTT show". Along with that are instructions on writing introductions for "ĐCTT sessions", editing programs and writing individual songs.

Researcher Nham Hung concluded that ĐCTT is an art form that is meant to be "listened to", so when brought into a tourist space, it is necessary to supplement and transform it into an art product that can be "both watched and listened to". Therefore, bringing ĐCTT into a tourist space must first ensure entertainment, attractiveness and move the viewer. "Bringing ĐCTT into a tourist space is currently an urgent demand and requirement. This must be considered an effective way to preserve ĐCTT, along with other forms. In particular, administrators must manage this heritage conservation field well, businesses need to share and support, and artists and artisans must constantly innovate, research and innovate to have the best products to serve tourists", researcher Nham Hung emphasized.
