Proposal to set off fireworks to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Hai Thuong Lan Ong's birth

Vice Chairman of Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Chau has just signed an official dispatch to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requesting permission for the province to set off high-altitude fireworks at the 300th anniversary of the birth of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac (1724 - 2024), welcoming the new year 2025, on the night of December 27, 2024.

If approved, the fireworks display will be held at Thanh Sen Square (Ha Tinh City), lasting 15 minutes (with 500 high-altitude fireworks and 90 low-altitude fireworks), starting at 9:45 p.m. on December 27.

Fireworks display funds are mobilized from socialized sources.

The monument of the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac was built on the top of Minh Tu mountain (Son Trung commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh).

Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac, one of the most famous great physicians in the history of Vietnamese medicine, is known not only as a talented physician but also as a great thinker and a world cultural celebrity.

He was born in November 1724, in Lieu Xa village, Duong Hao district, Thuong Hong prefecture, Hai Duong town (now Lieu Xa commune, Yen My district, Hung Yen province).

Le Huu Trac came from a family with a tradition of mandarin examinations, many of whom were good students, passed high exams, and became high-ranking officials under the reign of King Le and Lord Trinh. His father was Le Huu Muu, who passed the third class of doctoral examinations and became an official under the reign of Le Du Ton to the rank of Minister. His mother was Bui Thi Thuong, from Bau Thuong, Tinh Diem commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh.

He was the seventh child in his family. His nickname Hai Thuong came from the first two words of the province (Hai Duong) and the name of the prefecture (Thuong Hong), but it could also be because Bau Thuong was his mother's hometown and this was where he lived the longest (from the age of 26 until his death). "Lan Ong" means lazy, implying that he is lazy with fame and wealth but very diligent in his career of healing and saving people.

In 2023, in recognition of the merits and contributions of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac, UNESCO honored him as a World Cultural Celebrity.
