Summer is the time when Ms. Huynh Thi Thuy Duong (An Thanh commune, Ben Luc district) can be closer to and take care of her children more.
For Ms. Huynh Thi Thuy Duong (An Thanh commune, Ben Luc district, Long An province), summer is the time when she can be closer to her children. As the mother of a 6th grade boy and a 2nd grade girl, she is a full-time housewife, so during the school year she is always busy taking her children to and from school, closely following their studies. In the summer, with more time available, she shifts her care to a more gentle and joyful way.
Ms. Duong shared: “I teach my children some housework such as cooking and cleaning the house. Every morning, the whole family cleans up together before having breakfast, both to teach them life skills and to help them understand more about family responsibilities.”
In addition to daily chores, she also plans short family trips such as going back to her hometown or visiting scenic spots. These trips are an opportunity for Ms. Duong’s family to experience together, help her children explore the world around them, and learn more interesting things about culture. It is also an opportunity for her family members to bond and create beautiful memories during the summer.
Many parents send their children to gifted classes so that they can have more new experiences.
Unlike Ms. Duong, who is proactive about time, Mr. Nguyen Duy Linh and his wife (Phuoc Ly commune, Can Giuoc district) have to calculate more carefully because both of them are busy with work and cannot stay home often with their children during the summer. They have to send their children to their grandparents to take turns taking care of them.
“My child will be in 5th grade in the new school year. This summer, he will return to his grandparents’ home so that he will have someone to look after him and can play freely with his siblings. I also feel more secure because at his grandparents’ house, he will be well taken care of,” said Linh.
According to Mr. Linh, going back to the countryside during the summer not only helps children relax but also helps strengthen the bond with their grandparents; at the same time, it gives children access to nature and a simple lifestyle that they do not have the opportunity to experience during the school year.
Many other families also choose to send their children to gifted classes, skill summer camps or coordinate with relatives to take turns looking after their children to reduce pressure. Regardless of the choice, the common point is still to aim for safety, joy and practical values for children during the holidays.
In order for children to have a balance between studying and having fun during the summer vacation, parents need to be flexible in arranging their time, asking for support from relatives or investing in their children to learn additional skills, all of which demonstrate parents' concern for their children in a practical way, suitable to each family's circumstances./.
