The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just proposed that the Ministry of Transport review and approve the planning dossier for Phu Quoc International Airport for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. According to the proposal, Phu Quoc airport will be a shared civil and military airport.
During the 2021-2030 period, Phu Quoc International Airport will be a 4E airport (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO) and a level 2 military airport, with a capacity of 10 million passengers/year and 25,000 tons of cargo/year.
The airport has a total of 30 aircraft parking positions with operating aircraft types being B747, B787, A350 and equivalent.
By 2050, the airport will increase its capacity to 18 million passengers/year and 50,000 tons of cargo/year. During this period, the airport will have 45 aircraft parking positions (9 E codes, 36 C codes) with operating aircraft types such as B747, B787, A350 and equivalent.
According to the planning documents for the development of the national airport system approved by the Prime Minister on June 7, 2023, Phu Quoc airport is determined to expand to a capacity of 10 million passengers/year in the period 2021-2030; with a vision to 2050, it will continue to expand to a capacity of 18 million passengers/year.
The Ministry of Transport assessed that the planning of Phu Quoc International Airport is necessary, ensuring consistency with the master plan for the development of the national airport system for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, and with the general planning of Kien Giang province.
Kien Giang wants to soon upgrade Phu Quoc airport . The Ministry of Transport has just sent a document to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province regarding the proposal to soon invest in upgrading Phu Quoc airport.
