(NADS) - One of the street foods that arouses curiosity and challenges the taste buds of tourists when coming to Thailand is dancing shrimp, also known as Goong Ten. This dish is not only attractive because of its flavor but also because of the "liveliness" of the small river shrimps, which still jump and crackle in the mouth when enjoyed. Considered one of the strange dishes, Goong Ten makes many tourists want to try it but also makes many people hesitant.

Goong Ten is popular in Northern Thailand , especially in cities like Chiang Mai . The main ingredient is small, live freshwater prawns . After being caught, the prawns are cleaned and marinated with spices such as ground chili, lime juice, fish sauce, mint, sliced shallots and lemongrass . The prawns are then served raw with sticky rice, providing a culinary experience that is both interesting and strange. The uniqueness of the dish lies in the fact that the prawns are still able to jump off the plate and wiggle when put in the mouth, creating a "dancing" feeling in the mouth.

Some visitors admit to feeling a little scared at the thought of eating raw shrimp, but those brave enough to try it agree that Goong Ten is incredibly flavorful. “The first bite was pure bliss. The amazing taste of the dish made me excited,” says American food blogger Mark Wiens , who is based in Bangkok. He notes that the saltiness combined with the sauce and herbs creates a unique flavor.

A highlight of Goong Ten is the freshness of the dish, as the shrimp are processed and served immediately after being caught, ensuring the most natural flavor for diners. This dish is often served as an appetizer or snack, with preparation time of only about a minute.

Despite its curiosity and psychological challenge, Goong Ten has firmly established itself on the list of the strangest dishes that tourists have ever tried. Besides Thailand, this dancing shrimp dish also appears in some areas of Laos , bringing a unique experience to those who love to explore cuisine.
