National Economics University adds double points to candidates with foreign language certificates

In addition to conversion, candidates with international language certificates will receive an additional 0.75 points when combined with assessment scores for ability, thinking, or high school graduation exam scores.

The National Economics University has just announced the method of calculating admission scores for each admission method in 2025. Accordingly, candidates with international English certificates have a distinct advantage when applying for combined admission to the school.

The school adds 0.75 points to all candidates with international English certificates, regardless of their score. For example, candidates with IELTS 5.5 or 9.0 will receive the same 0.75 points.

At the same time, candidates can convert IELTS and foreign language certificates into component scores. If they get 5.5 IELTS, the National Economics University will convert it to 8/10 points. If they get 7.5 IELTS or more, they will be counted as 10. This conversion level is the same as last year.

National Economics University adds double points to candidates with foreign language certificates - 1

Thus, if candidates register for the National Economics University using the combined IELTS and graduation exam scores, they will receive an additional 0.75 points and can use the converted certificate score to replace the English subject in the admission combination.

The formula for calculating admission scores (ADS) based on graduation exam scores + international English certificates is as follows:

DXT = [Score of 2 subjects + Conversion score of international English certificate + Bonus points] + Priority points (if any)

In which, the scores of 2 subjects are the scores of Math and 1 subject among the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Literature. For example, a candidate applying for combination D01 with 8 points in Math, 8 points in Literature, IELTS 6.5, the candidate's admission score (not including regional priority points, policy subjects) is as follows:

DXT = [(8+8)+9 + 0.75] = 25.75

Similar to the method of combining the test scores of ability assessment, thinking assessment (HSA, APT, TSA) with international English certificates, candidates will also be added 0.75 points and the certificate conversion score on a 10-point scale to add to the HSA, TSA test scores with a score weight of 1/3. The formula for calculating admission scores according to the HSA/APT/TSA + international English certificate method is as follows:

DXT = [HSA/TSA/APT score converted to 30 x 2/3 scale + English certificate conversion score + Bonus points] + Priority points (if any).

For example, a candidate has HSA 90/150 and IELTS 6.5, assuming the National Economics University uses the formula to convert HSA to the high school graduation exam score of block A00 of Hanoi National University, the candidate will have a converted HSA score of 25.38.

Admission scores of candidates using the combined method to enter the National Economics University (excluding regional priority points and policy subjects) are as follows:

DXT = [25.38x2/3 + 9 + 0.75] = 26.67 (points).

With this scoring method, candidates with IELTS, TOEFL iBT, TOIEC, and those with international English certificates are at a great advantage. On the contrary, candidates applying with high school graduation exam scores or purely ability and thinking assessment scores will have difficulty competing.

This year, the National Economics University will enroll 8,200 full-time students for 73 majors, with a total of nearly 90 programs. The two new programs are Labor Relations and International Trade Law.

Three admission methods include:

Direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training

Consider the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam with four groups, including A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English), D07 (Math, Chemistry, English). The threshold to ensure input quality (floor score) with this method is 20 points, as in recent years.

Combined admission, for three groups of candidates:

Group 1, students with international SAT certificates from 1200/1600 or ACT 26/36 or higher.

Group 2: Candidates with a minimum score of 85/150 HSA, 700/1200 APT or 60/100 TSA on the aptitude test. Candidates can apply for admission independently using this score, or in combination with an international English certificate with IELTS from 5.5, TOEFL iBT 46 or higher.

Group 3, candidates with English certificates, will be considered in combination with their graduation exam scores in Math and another subject. Certificate requirements are similar to Group 2.

Candidates need to register online from June 1 to 30, the application fee is 200,000 VND per application. The school will announce the formula for converting scores between methods before July 23.
