"Mutant" on the run
“Mutant” Nguyen Van Long (39 years old) was born and raised in Gia Lai province. With a strong passion for running, in 2005 (20 years old) he decided to apply to join the Gia Lai province athletics team.
During his time in athletics, he participated in many tournaments in and out of the province and achieved many successes. The highest achievement in Long’s career was winning the national marathon in 2009 and 2011 at a distance of 42km.
Nguyen Van Long's best achievement in the 42km distance is 2 hours 29 minutes; won the national 21km distance 3 times in a row in 2011, 2012, 2013 with the highest achievement ever recorded being 1 hour 8 minutes 30 seconds; won the Southeast Asian Marathon Championship in 2007 in the Vietnamese marathon team.
In particular, in 2022, Mr. Long successfully completed a cross-country running journey after 34 days from (April 10 to May 13). The starting point was from Tra Co district (belonging to Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province) to Ca Mau Cape with a total estimated length of 2,846km. His watch recorded that he ran a total of 2,656km in 34 consecutive days, averaging 78.1km/day.
At the Dak Nong Marathon 2025 “Conquering the Southern Central Highlands” organized by Dak Nong Newspaper in early June 2025, “mutant” Nguyen Van Long will participate as the Director of the Dak Nong Marathon 2025 Conquering the Southern Central Highlands. Mr. Long will be primarily responsible for designing and ensuring the safety of the running route.
4,000 athletes participate in Dak Nong Marathon 2025
Dak Nong Marathon 2025 is organized by Dak Nong Newspaper, in coordination with Vietpro Media Development Joint Stock Company, Motive Sports Brand, 5:30 Community - Healthy Every Day and Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Nong province.
The tournament is expected to take place over 2 days, in late May or early June 2025, in Gia Nghia City. The tournament is expected to attract about 4,000 participants, including professional and amateur athletes, journalists, press reporters, marathon clubs from provinces and cities across the country, along with cadres, soldiers, union members, youth and people of Dak Nong.
In addition to the main marathon distances, the event will also host a Kids Run on Saturday afternoon (May 31, 2025), for around 500 students under the age of 12. They will participate in a 2km race, with a maximum completion time of 45 minutes. The organizers will award prizes to the best athletes in two age groups: under 10 and 10-12.
On Sunday morning (June 1, 2025), the marathon will officially start from 03:00 to 10:00, with distances of 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km, corresponding to the participating ages. Specifically, the 42km distance is for athletes aged 16 and over; the 21km and 10km distances are for those aged 14 and over; the 5km distance is for athletes aged 12 and over.
Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and 3 female athletes in each distance, along with additional prizes such as the oldest athlete, youngest athlete, and athlete in the journalism and media industry.
