4cm leech found in a teenager's nose

On August 6, Dakrong Regional Medical Center, Quang Tri province, said that the unit had just successfully performed an endoscopic procedure to remove a 4cm long leech from the nose of a 14-year-old male patient.

The patient is HVĐ. (residing in Chai village, Dakrong commune), admitted to the hospital on August 5 with difficulty breathing and bleeding from one side of the nose. Through examination using an ENT endoscope, doctors discovered a foreign object in the nose, a live leech.

Immediately afterwards, the doctor from the Examination Department performed a nasal endoscopy and successfully removed the leech. The patient's health is now stable.

Dakrong Regional Medical Center recommends that people, especially children who regularly live and bathe in streams, should be careful to avoid cases of parasites entering the body through the nose or mouth. When there are unusual health symptoms, it is necessary to go to a medical facility for timely diagnosis and treatment.
