Nghe An approves investment policy documents for construction of Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway

The Vinh - Thanh Thuy International Border Gate Expressway project is 60km long, passing through 9 communes of Nghe An province, with a total investment of nearly 24,000 billion VND.

This is an important national project, of strategic significance to the socio -economic development, national defense and security of the region.

The project was assigned by the Prime Minister to the People's Committee of Nghe An province as the managing agency. This expressway plays a role in connecting with the North-South expressway in the East, creating a new development space for Nghe An province in particular and the North Central region in general.

The project passes through 9 communes of Nghe An province including: Hung Nguyen, Kim Lien, Dai Hue, Van An, Nam Dan, Xuan Lam, Hoa Quan, Son Lam and Kim Bang.

The project scale includes 6 complete expressway lanes, design speed of 100 km/h (difficult terrain section from 60 - 80 km/h), total land use area of about 615 hectares.

The expressway has a total length of about 60km, starting from the North-South expressway, Dien Chau - Bai Vot section, at Hung Tay intersection (Hung Nguyen commune). The end point connects to the road leading to Thanh Thuy International Border Gate Economic Zone. The total estimated investment is about 23,950 billion VND.

The project will be implemented in the period of 2025 - 2030, in which investment preparation and site clearance will start in 2025, construction will start in 2026, basically be completed in 2028 and put into operation in 2029. Compensation, support and resettlement will be divided into component projects and assigned to relevant localities to organize implementation to ensure progress and effective use of public investment capital.

When put into operation, the project will not only contribute to shortening the road travel time between Vietnam and Laos, but also have special significance in promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, enhancing trade, tourism , mineral exploitation and industrial development along the route.

At the meeting, Nghe An provincial leaders emphasized the urgency and significance of the project for the province's sustainable development. At the same time, they requested relevant departments and branches to continue completing procedures according to regulations, promptly submit to the Prime Minister and report to the National Assembly for approval of the investment policy.
