Runner-up Kieu Loan said she was happy to accompany the children in the Vietnamese Family Home. As a native of Da Nang (formerly Quang Nam ), she was even more moved when the program was filmed in her hometown. Kieu Loan also made a good impression when greeting the audience in a Quang accent, bringing a sense of closeness and intimacy.
Accompanying her, actor Quoc Anh shared that he often watched the program with his family and was often moved by the children's circumstances. He felt happy and proud to have the opportunity to contribute to spreading love.
The first case in episode 146 is Do Thi Yen Nhi (2009), an 11th grader at Nguyen Thai Binh High School, Da Nang. She was raised by a single mother - Ms. Phan Thi Em (1965), a frail woman who worked hard all her life to take care of her child. Since childhood, Nhi has never known who her father is and has never felt a father's love.
Ms. Phan Thi Em suffers from many diseases such as spinal degeneration, stomach pain and eye pain. Without a stable job, she works many jobs with an income of only a few tens of thousands of VND per day. The life of the mother and daughter mainly depends on the subsidy of 500,000 VND/month. The house they live in was built with local support, but it is too hot in the summer, so during the day they often have to go to their aunt's house to avoid the sun.
Despite her difficult circumstances, Yen Nhi always tried her best to study and won the provincial prize for excellent student in Chemistry. In 10th grade, she dreamed of entering a specialized school but had to give up because her family could not afford to pay for her tuition and living expenses away from home.
On weekends, Yen Nhi works part-time at a coffee shop for 15,000 VND/hour, sometimes not coming home until 10 pm, which worries her mother. During summer vacation, she works to earn money to pay for school and buy medicine for her mother. The daily expenses of the mother and daughter are only about 30,000 VND.
Nhi always dreamed of going to university to study Pedagogy, studying and working to support herself. But thinking about her sick mother and uncertain future, she couldn't help but cry and told herself to be stronger.
Loving her mother, Yen Nhi only wished to give her mother a new shirt, because up until now they had only worn old clothes. "I want to give my mother a pink shirt, hoping that life will be brighter like that color" , she burst into tears.
Yen Nhi's simple wish to give her mother a pink shirt made MC Dai Nghia choke with emotion. He shared: "Nhi's family only has two mothers and children, her mother's health is poor, paying for living expenses and medicine is very difficult. At the age of 16, she should be dreamy and innocent, but Nhi has to shoulder many worries."
What makes many people feel sorry is Yen Nhi's understanding. She used to want to know her father but gradually accepted a life with only her mother. She burst into tears and said that she wanted to have a complete family, but because she loved her mother, she did not dare to ask too many questions, afraid of making her mother sad.
Runner-up Kieu Loan encouraged Yen Nhi to persevere in pursuing her dream of university, believing that it would help her mother feel at ease and change her family's life. "People often say that sensible children don't get candy. But I believe that Nhi's understanding will help her do many things that will make her mother proud ," Runner-up Kieu Loan emotionally shared.
The second case in episode 146 of Vietnamese Family Home is Cao Ngoc Bao Chau (2008), a 12th grade student at Hoa Chau High School. In early 2025, she lost her father after many years of being paralyzed due to a brain tumor. Bao Chau still painfully remembers the last moment when her father passed away.
Currently, she lives with her mother, Ms. Do Thi Thuy (1983) in Quang Dien commune, Hue city. Ms. Thuy has end-stage renal failure and has to undergo dialysis three times a week. The serious illness has left her weak and her hands full of tumors from long-term injections. The cost of dialysis is up to 1.6 million VND/week, and she has to ask to split the payment into two installments because she cannot afford to pay at once.
The family has one sao of rice field, but Ms. Thuy is in poor health and has to ask acquaintances to help her and receive 50kg of rice per crop. Without a stable income, she only receives 750,000 VND/month in critical illness allowance. On healthy days, she tries to sell onions and garlic, telling herself "whatever money she can earn is worth it". Every morning, Bao Chau takes her mother to the market and then to school, and at noon she picks her mother up for dialysis.
Having seen her father paralyzed for many years, and now her mother is also seriously ill, Bao Chau is very heartbroken. Even though she is still young, she always tries to help her mother with housework. She fears the day when her mother will leave her, leaving her alone and helpless. Bao Chau only hopes that her mother will get well soon so that she can accompany her to adulthood.
Watching the clip about Cao Ngoc Bao Chau's family situation, MC Dai Nghia emotionally shared: "I heard many cries, not only from the characters but also from the audience. 'A small family, a big happiness' is the dream of many people, but for Bao Chau, a young girl who has suffered many losses, the pain is even greater. Her father has passed away, her mother is in the hospital, she came here alone, shouldering everything and worrying about her mother. Her situation makes me very sad."
Seeing Bao Chau quietly alone when the clip was played, runner-up Kieu Loan hugged her, burst into tears and shared that she could not imagine what it would be like to be in a similar situation. She felt lucky and wanted to share more with those in difficult situations.
Actor Quoc Anh also choked up, saying that he was lucky to still have his parents and could not imagine Bao Chau having to bear the pain alone. He praised her for her efforts, both supporting her mother and standing firm in the face of difficulties.
