From July 18 to 5:00 p.m. on July 30 is the time for candidates applying for university admission in 2024 to officially register, adjust, and add admission wishes an unlimited number of times.
Speaking with reporters of the People's Representative Newspaper , representatives of major universities gave some initial predictions regarding the admission scores based on the high school graduation exam scores.
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Hien, Head of Training Management Department, Foreign Trade University, said that when analyzing the score distribution of this year's high school graduation exam, the school paid much attention to the group of candidates who achieved relatively high scores, ranging from 26 - 27 points or more in the groups the school considered for admission.
Accordingly, compared to 2023, the number of candidates with scores of 27 or higher in groups such as A00 and D01 increased compared to the previous year; group A01 alone did not fluctuate much.
“We predict that the benchmark score may increase slightly, but not in all combinations. The score may increase in combinations such as A00, D01, while combination A01 may not increase or if it increases, it will not increase much,” Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Hien said.
According to the Head of Training Management Department, Foreign Trade University, in the 2024 enrollment season, the school's enrollment plan has a new point: all candidates, including early admitted candidates, must still meet the requirement of having a total score of the 2024 high school graduation exam subjects of at least one of the school's admission subject groups of 24 points or higher.
Therefore, candidates need to pay attention to registering their wishes on the system so that the school can determine the final condition mentioned above, before determining that they are officially admitted to a program.
For candidates applying for admission using a combination of foreign language certificates and high school graduation exam scores, or applying purely based on high school graduation exam scores, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Hien advises them to analyze the admission threshold scores over the years of their favorite programs to see the trend of increasing or decreasing admission scores. From there, make appropriate judgments when placing admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's General Admission Support System.
Talking with reporters of People's Representative Newspaper , Dr. Tran Manh Ha, Head of Training Department, Banking Academy said that the admission score also depends on many factors such as the wishes of the candidates applying to the school, the major; the score distribution of this year compared to last year, especially the score distribution of the candidates applying to the school.
According to Dr. Tran Manh Ha, the Banking Academy pays much attention to the group of candidates with excellent scores (between 20 - 25% from above). Based on the score distribution of this group of candidates, Dr. Tran Manh Ha predicts that the benchmark score for admission to the Banking Academy this year may remain stable or increase slightly compared to last year. However, he emphasized that this prediction is for reference only.
“Because the benchmark depends on many factors, the prediction is for reference only. If candidates really love the Banking Academy and the school's training programs, they should boldly register, because the principle is that the more diverse their wishes are, the higher their chances of being admitted. Just because your score is a little lower than expected doesn't mean you don't dare to register. If the benchmark drops, you will lose a very regrettable opportunity,” said Dr. Tran Manh Ha.
The Head of Training Department, Banking Academy also noted that when registering for admission, candidates should learn and research carefully about the school, especially about the majors and training programs. Currently, schools have many training programs for candidates to choose from. Candidates should choose majors that are suitable for their expertise, abilities, and interests; avoid inappropriate choices that will make studying later more difficult.
“In particular, students should register for a variety of wishes, avoiding the situation of only focusing on registering for one or two schools or one or two wishes. Registering like that, if unfortunately your scores do not meet the requirements, it will be very regrettable. Through many years of working in admissions, we have seen this situation every year,” said Dr. Tran Manh Ha.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong, Vice Principal of University of Transport also said that predicting the benchmark score is quite difficult because the benchmark score depends on many factors, including the demand of candidates registering for this year's majors.
However, based on the analysis of the score distribution of the main combinations that the school is using for admission, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong said that the benchmark score may increase in majors with a threshold of 25 points or more. For the remaining majors, the benchmark score may not increase or increase insignificantly.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong advises candidates to base on their results and compare them with the benchmark scores in recent years to choose majors with scores similar to or higher than the benchmark scores of the previous year.
Dr. Tran Khac Thac, Head of Training Department, Thuyloi University, said that although the average score of this year's high school graduation exam is quite high according to statistics, the average standard score of universities, if increased, will only be 1-1.5 points depending on the major.
The reason is that the schools' quotas are high, while the number of candidates applying for university admission is moderate. Following the current trend of study mobility, many students choose to study abroad, and these students have quite high test scores. In addition, following the trend of job mobility, students have many other options instead of just applying for university.
As for the University of Water Resources, Dr. Tran Khac Thac predicted that the benchmark score would only fluctuate similarly in 2023.
According to Dr. Tran Khac Thac, this year's enrollment quota and methods of the University of Water Resources remain basically the same as in 2023. Currently, the school has "hot" majors such as Construction Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Information Technology, Management Economics (of which Logistics and Supply Chain Management are of great interest), and Social Sciences (with majors in Language and Law in high demand).
“Even though they are eligible for early admission, from 6pm to 5pm on July 30, candidates still have to register their wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training portal to have their results recognized. In addition, according to the principle of considering wishes, students who like a major should put it in their first wish,” Dr. Tran Khac Thac advised.
The Admissions and Career Guidance Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology also predicted the admission scores for 64 training programs enrolling in 2024. Accordingly, this year, the training program of Hanoi University of Science and Technology with the highest predicted admission scores belongs to the field of Information Technology with majors: Computer Science (IT1), Computer Engineering (IT2) and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IT-E10).
Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that in the context of Vietnam promoting the digital transformation process, applying information technology and communication in the process of industrialization and modernization of the country, the demand for human resources in the Information Technology group is increasing, so the demand for labor is large. The predicted benchmark score of this group of majors has always been among the highest of Hanoi University of Science and Technology in recent years.
According to the forecast, the lowest benchmark score based on the high school graduation exam results is between 20 and 22.75 points. The majors in this group are Environmental Engineering (EV1), Natural Resources and Environment Management (EV2), Materials Science and Engineering (MS-E3), and Textile Technology (TX1). The forecast for 2024 for these majors will increase slightly compared to 2023 by about 0.75 points.
Important milestones candidates need to know in university admissions in 2024:
- From July 1 to July 20, candidates who have graduated from high school or college (independent candidates) who want to register for admission but have not yet registered personal information on the System must register using the registration form to be granted an account to use for registering admission wishes.
- From July 18 to 5:00 p.m. on July 30, candidates can register, adjust, and add admission wishes an unlimited number of times.
- From July 22 to 5:00 p.m. on July 31, candidates for direct admission must confirm their admission on the System (if any).
- From July 31 to 5:00 p.m. August 6, candidates pay the admission fee according to the number of admission wishes online, following the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Before 5:00 p.m. on August 19, training institutions will notify candidates who have passed the first round of admission.
- Before 5:00 p.m. on August 27, candidates confirm online admission for the first round on the System.
