According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, cold air has covered the entire North and reached the Central Central region. Currently (December 14), cold air affects some places in the South Central region; in the Gulf of Tonkin, there are strong northeast winds of level 7, gusting to level 9; in the Central coastal area, there are strong winds of level 6, gusting to level 8.
This evening and tonight, the cold air continues to strengthen and affect other places in the South Central region. Northeast wind inland is strong at level 3, coastal areas at level 4-5.
Due to the influence of cold air, from this evening to tomorrow night (December 15), the North and Thanh Hoa continue to be immersed in cold weather with temperatures at very cold levels, and in mountainous areas, very cold and freezing.
The meteorological agency said that the lowest temperature in this cold air mass in the above areas is generally from 10-13 degrees, in mountainous areas 7-10 degrees, in high mountainous areas some places are below 5 degrees. Dien Bien area and from Nghe An to Quang Binh will be cold, some places are very cold; the lowest temperature is from 12-15 degrees, in Dien Bien some places are below 11 degrees.
Particularly in Hanoi , the weather is very cold; the lowest temperature is commonly 10-13 degrees.
Meteorological experts say that due to the cold air continuously adding and strengthening in the coming days, the cold in the North will last from now until Christmas.
After December 15, the highest temperature in Hanoi will gradually increase to 20-23 degrees, with sunny days. However, at night and early morning, the lowest temperature will still be only 11-13 degrees. In particular, according to the forecast, on Christmas Eve (December 24), the lowest temperature will be around 10 degrees.
In the North and Thanh Hoa, Nghe An from December 16, sunny days; cold weather, mountainous areas have severe cold.
Also due to the influence of cold air combined with disturbances in the upper East wind zone, from this evening to tomorrow night, in the area from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa, there will continue to be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with rainfall of 40-100mm, some places over 200mm. Warning of the risk of local heavy rain (over 100mm/6 hours).
In addition, from this evening until tomorrow, in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, the Central Highlands and the South, there will be showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 10-30 mm, some places over 70 mm. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
From the night of December 16, heavy rain in the Central region decreased.
The meteorological agency said that from now until mid-January 2025, cold air tends to be active, with the possibility of many days of severe cold.
At sea : from the night of December 14 to December 15, the Gulf of Tonkin will have strong northeast winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9; rough seas; waves 2-4.5m high. From December 16, the wind will gradually decrease. The North East Sea area (including Hoang Sa archipelago) has strong northeast wind level 7, gusting to level 8-9, rough seas; waves from 4-6m high.
