On the afternoon of July 24, the Vietnam ESG Forum 2025 High-Level Council meeting took place in person and online. The Vietnam ESG Forum 2025 has the theme " Science and technology and driving force for sustainable development".
This year's Vietnam ESG Forum High Council includes members who accompanied the Organizing Committee of the first Vietnam ESG Forum and some new members including Mr. Nguyen Trong Khang - Chairman of the Board of Directors of MK Group, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Hai Tung - Principal of the School of Information and Communication Technology ( Hanoi University of Science and Technology), Mr. Bui Minh Tien - Member of the Board of Members of the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group (PVN).
Journalist Pham Tuan Anh - Editor-in-Chief of Dan Tri Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam ESG Forum - said that in 2024, Dan Tri Newspaper will organize the Vietnam ESG Forum for the first time with the theme "Strategy for sustainable development in the new era", attracting great attention from experts and the business community.
“To continue to build in-depth activities for the forum, Dan Tri newspaper hopes to receive advice and consultation from the Council on the content of thematic seminars; satellite event series and forum day events together with Vietnam ESG Awards 2025,” said Mr. Pham Tuan Anh.
At the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Trung - President of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City - highly appreciated the topics planned for the workshop within the framework of the Vietnam ESG Forum. Mr. Trung suggested that it is possible to connect and learn from the experiences of leading enterprises in applying AI in management and operation because these units are in line with the orientation of the Forum.
Sharing the same view, Dr. Le Thai Ha - Executive Director of VinFuture Fund, Fund for Green Future - suggested that it is necessary to clarify the concept of "ESG governance by technology" and specifically analyze the technology applications corresponding to each ESG pillar when developing content for the Forum's satellite workshops.
Dr. Bui Thanh Minh - Deputy Director of the Office of Private Economic Development Research (Department IV) - said that it is necessary to expand the perspective from the enterprise level to national policy, because ESG is not only an operating tool for enterprises but also an intrinsic driving force of the economy . According to him, the success of the first Vietnam ESG Forum is the driving force to expand the discussion from within enterprises to policies, institutions and markets.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Khang - Chairman of the Board of Directors of MK Group - emphasized the importance of standardizing ESG pillars according to international standards. According to him, ethical and responsibility issues when using AI in ESG need to be carefully analyzed. "If not careful, businesses can easily fall into a state of violating the law. This is a new topic that needs to be clarified at the forum," Mr. Khang suggested.
Mr. Bui Minh Tien - Member of the Board of Members of Vietnam National Energy Industry Group - highly appreciated the early and timely organization of the Vietnam ESG Forum. He stated that to build an ESG report, businesses need large data sources and have continuity over the years, so technology plays an extremely important role. Mr. Tien suggested that the Forum Organizing Committee invite more representatives of State agencies to discuss the improvement of institutions and policies on ESG.
Mr. Giando Zappia - Chairman of the EuroCham Sustainable Finance Sector Committee, Chairman of Aquila.is - suggested that the workshop content should be divided into sectors such as energy, chemicals, agriculture, services... to guide businesses in approaching support and managing ESG risks in a practical way.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tho - Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) - proposed that the Forum's satellite workshops should focus entirely on technology and AI to create coherence.
Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Ngoc - Permanent Deputy General Director of Deloitte Vietnam - said that within the framework of the workshop, there should be a general report, evaluating ESG achievements in the world and in Vietnam, and comparing Vietnam's current position on the world "ESG map".
Mr. Nguyen Duc Minh - Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Association of Key Industrial Products Manufacturers (HAMI) - shared that businesses are very interested in the impact of policies, especially international policies. He also emphasized the need for diversity in the participants in the workshop, which should include domestic private enterprises, multinational companies and foreign enterprises to increase the spread and learning in the ESG community.
Associate Professor Dr. Ta Hai Tung - Principal of the School of Information and Communication Technology (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) - said that social awareness of ESG is still limited. He proposed organizing popular training courses in the community to raise awareness of ESG such as "popular digital education" and said that the school is ready to accompany in this training work.
