Venerable Thich Tri Tinh passed away

On October 9, the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs and Religions announced that Most Venerable Thich Tri Tinh, Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Council, had passed away. The Most Venerable was a high-ranking dignitary in the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and had great prestige among monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers.

Venerable Elder Thich Tri Tinh, secular name Lam Dinh Dao, was born in 1932 in the former Nam Dinh province, now Ninh Binh province. He is the Deputy Dharma Master of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha's Council of Evidence, Head of the Trung Hau Mountain Gate, Dharma Master of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Founder of Linh Phong Thien Uyen, Abbot of Linh Phong Thien Tu, Bao An Thien Tu, Bich Van Thien Tu, Kim Son Bao Thang Tu, Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu. In 2017, at the 8th National Buddhist Congress, he was honored as the Deputy Dharma Master of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha's Council of Evidence.

Throughout his monastic life, the Venerable has always been an example of uniting monks, nuns, and Buddhists, contributing to leading the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to firmly adhere to the motto: "Dharma - Nation - Socialism", implementing the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws, actively participating in patriotic emulation movements for the community.

The Venerable's contributions to the country have been recognized by the State and awarded the National Solidarity Medal and many certificates of merit from central and local ministries, departments and branches.

Due to old age and poor health, the Venerable passed away at 4:30 a.m. on October 8, 2025, at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, 339 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, at the age of 94 (74 years of monastic life).

The official coffin-laying ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. on October 8, 2025 at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, 339 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

The funeral will begin at 6:00 p.m. on October 8, 2025 at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda. The memorial service will be held at 5:00 a.m. on October 12, 2025, after which the coffin will be placed in the stupa at Linh Phong Thien Uyen, 122 Phan Chu Trinh, Vung Tau Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
