According to the obituary of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Venerable Elder Thich Thien Tanh passed away at 9:55 a.m. on October 25 (September 5, At Ty year) due to illness, at Pho Quang Pagoda, Tan Son Hoa ward, Ho Chi Minh City, at the age of 84, having been a monk for 64 years.
Most Venerable Thich Thien Tanh is currently Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, advisor to the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, former Head of the Central Control Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, former Permanent Deputy Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, former Head of the Legal Board of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City;
Former People's Council delegate at 3 levels: Ward 11 (old), District 10 (old) and Ho Chi Minh City; abbot of Khanh Anh Pagoda (Hoa Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), abbot of Long Phu Pagoda (Phuoc My Commune, Vinh Long Province).
The funeral will take place at 7 p.m. on October 25. The coffin of the Venerable Elder will be placed at Pho Quang Pagoda (21 Huynh Lan Khanh Street, Tan Son Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City). The funeral will begin at 8 p.m. the same day.
The memorial service will take place at 5am on October 27. After that, the coffin will be placed in the stupa at Long Phu Pagoda, Phuoc My Commune, Vinh Long Province.
