At the age of 23, An Se Young is in the best phase of her career. She climbed to the No. 1 position in the world of women's singles badminton since August 2023. And over the past 2 years, the Korean player has shown no signs of slowing down.
The French Open, part of the BWF Super 750 series, is one of the most prestigious badminton tournaments of the year. And despite winning consecutive tournaments in recent years, An Se Young shows no signs of slowing down.
On the way to the championship, An Se Young defeated almost all of China's strongest players.
In the quarterfinals, she faced world No. 15 Gao Fang Jie. An Se Young was momentarily careless in this match and was led by Gao after the first set (17-21), before winning the next two sets with scores of 21-11, 21-18.
In the semi-finals, An's opponent is former world number 1 Chen Yu Fei. Despite his decline in recent years, Chen is still ranked number 5 in the world.
The match between the two players who have dominated the rankings was extremely dramatic. In the end, An won with a score of 2-1 (23-21, 18-21, 21-16).
In the final, An's opponent was the world number 2 tennis player also from China - Wang Zhi Yi. And it was not until the most important match that the Korean tennis player showed his strongest form.
It took her just over 30 minutes to easily beat Wang Zhi Yi with a score of 21-13, 21-7. An incredibly quick victory for An Se Young.
