Known by her nickname Yan Yuexia, she is often referred to by Chinese netizens as the "most beautiful female bodyguard," although her appearance is only a small part of her outstanding qualities, according to The Paper.
When Brigitte Macron attended events in Beijing and Chengdu during the French President's official visit to China in early December, she caused a sensation online thanks to her professional demeanor. Yan was always filmed in a state of high concentration, constantly observing her surroundings.
Yan first gained widespread attention in September 2023 when she accompanied Asma al-Assad, the wife of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, on a visit to China. Videos showed Yan maintaining a serious expression, always standing close to shield Assad as she interacted with students and the press in Beijing.
In February of this year, Yan continued his protective duties for then- Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra during her visit to China. Media outlets captured the moment Yan sat closely watching Shinawatra watch a hockey game in Harbin, with veins clearly visible on his neck, indicating the tension of his role. After the operation, Shinawatra spoke with Yan, expressing her gratitude and sharing a video to show her appreciation.

Due to the nature of her work, personal information about Yan is very limited. She is believed to have been born in Luoyang, Henan Province, into a family with a martial arts tradition. Yan began studying martial arts at the age of six and was sent to the Shaolin Temple for professional kung fu training. In 2015, she was recruited into the elite bodyguard force of the Central Guard Bureau of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, tasked with protecting Chinese leaders and international guests during their travels.
According to a security expert, a professional bodyguard doesn't need to be famous but needs the ability to detect risks early. Yan has never given interviews to the press, but public documents show that she received an honorary medal from the Chinese government in August 2020 as a representative of the bodyguard team serving foreign leaders.

Yan's story quickly went viral on Chinese social media, where users showered her with praise: "She's a rose with thorns," "She's even sharper than the female secret agents in movies," or humorously commented, "I'm ready to let her catch me."
