Peer-to-peer technologies like Napster, Gnutella, FastTrack, and BitTorrent revolutionized file sharing, but without the support of dozens of forum communities, things might have turned out differently. Once they had achieved their purpose, however, many forums were abandoned, their members drawn to the social networking trend. Brazil-based FileWarez first appeared in August 2004, with Portuguese as the default language. Despite problems and occasional shutdowns, the forum has survived until recently.
When the main forum closed, other linked discussion platforms also stopped working. A Facebook post indicated that the page had been taken down by the network operator.
