Thai Hoa Palace was built by King Gia Long in 1805 in the Dai Cung Mon area. In 1833, King Minh Mang rebuilt the building in its current location. This is the most important palace in the Hue Imperial Citadel area, considered a symbol of the Nguyen Dynasty's power. This is where the Nguyen Dynasty's ceremonial activities took place during its 143 years of existence.

Over the past 200 years, under the impact of time and harsh climate, despite many restorations and renovations, Thai Hoa Palace has seriously degraded. Carrying out the overall conservation and restoration of Thai Hoa Palace is an important and urgent task to preserve and promote the value of a special national historical and cultural relic - a world cultural heritage (in the photo of Thai Hoa Palace before restoration).

Faced with that situation, the Project for the Conservation and Overall Restoration of Thai Hoa Palace Relics was approved by the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province for implementation with a total investment of more than 128 billion VND (including the central budget, local budget and other mobilized sources).

According to the plan, the project will officially start on November 23, 2021 and will be completed on August 23, 2025. Up to now, after nearly 3 years of implementation, the items of this project are gradually completing the final steps.

The project has now repaired and reinforced the foundation, restored the tiled floor, Thanh stone steps, brick walls with original colors and other architectural details.

The wooden frame system, roof system, wooden wall system, and wooden doors have also been repaired and restored. Inside the palace, the system of literature and poetry, in the unique decorative form of "one poem, one painting", which has been recognized by UNESCO as a Documentary Heritage under the Memory of the World Program in the Asia-Pacific region, is also preserved.

Because it is a valuable relic, the process of dismantling and restoring Thai Hoa Palace was carried out by the units with great care and meticulousness.

The pillars and columns at Thai Hoa Palace have been restored after nearly 3 years. The railing and steps have been repaired and reinforced.

The roof ridge is preserved and restored with decorative ceramic layers.

The roof system of Thai Hoa Palace is covered with yellow glazed tiles and yellow glazed tiles.

The porcelain inlaid decorative details on the animals are beautifully restored by the skillful hands of highly skilled and experienced craftsmen.

In recent days, construction units have been increasing their workforce and urgently speeding up the progress to be able to complete the project by the end of this year. Earlier than the approved plan. As expected, by November 2024, Thai Hoa Palace will be inaugurated and welcome visitors. This event is of great interest and expectation to the people and tourists.
