Samsung is developing a new foldable phone with an ambitious design, featuring two unique hinges that allow it to fold in two different positions. This design promises to bring flexible and innovative user experiences. However, leaked information shows that this phone may not be released globally but only limited to certain markets.

According to information from certification bodies, this foldable phone is expected to be introduced only in the Chinese and Korean markets by the end of 2025. This suggests that Samsung may be testing the market before deciding to widely release it in other countries. This decision may reflect a strategy to focus on regions with great potential for foldable devices.

The filings, which were recently published on the GSMA database, also reveal a previously unannounced Samsung device. The phone carries the model number SM-F968 and was originally codenamed Q7M. Now, two variants of the device have been confirmed, including the SM-F9680 for China and the SM-F968N, which could be for South Korea, further strengthening the information that the product will not be launched globally.

The lack of familiar international codenames like B, E, U, or U1, which are common on Samsung products, is a sign that the product may not be widely distributed globally in the early stages. Instead, Samsung may focus on strategic markets like China and South Korea to gauge consumer acceptance before deciding to expand to other countries, a typical strategy in testing new products by major technology companies.

A source said that Samsung may be looking to gauge consumer reaction to the device in those markets, especially since Huawei has already launched its dual-hinge Huawei Mate XT in China. Samsung may want to gauge the level of competition between its product and similar devices in the market and determine whether the market is really ready for such innovations.

Although the detailed specifications of this foldable phone model have not been revealed, leaked information from patents has shown signs of the unique design of the device. Accordingly, this phone can fold in many flexible configurations, opening up new usage possibilities for users. In addition, the device's screen is expected to be larger than the current Galaxy Z Fold models, promising to bring a more impressive user experience.

The launch of Samsung's new foldable phone can be considered a big step forward in the field of foldable phones, marking a clear innovation since the first Galaxy Fold in 2019. With a unique dual-hinge design, this product not only challenges the limits of foldable screen technology but also opens a new era for this smartphone line. However, instead of releasing it on a global scale immediately, Samsung may limit the launch to some initial strategic markets such as China and Korea.

The reason behind this decision could be a cautious move by Samsung to test and evaluate the durability of the complex hinge system, as well as ensure the quality of the product and reliability before expanding globally. This testing will help the company adjust and improve the product, minimizing risks and unwanted feedback when launching in larger markets. This is also Samsung's way of showing caution in developing groundbreaking devices, especially when it comes to new and complex technology like foldable phones.
