Electricity returns, the highlands rise up

For many years, bringing national electricity to remote areas and ethnic minority areas has always been one of the key tasks of the electricity industry. Electricity not only contributes to poverty reduction and improving the quality of life of the people, but also makes an important contribution to the sustainable development of the rural and mountainous areas of Tra My in the southwest of Da Nang city.

Continuous efforts to bring electricity to the highlands

The two districts of Bac Tra My and Nam Tra My in Quang Nam province (old) are mountainous areas with rugged terrain, scattered population, and many places are isolated from traffic, especially during the rainy season. With the spirit of serving the community, the officers and employees of Tra My Electricity Management Team have not been afraid of difficulties and hardships, taking advantage of the opportunity to implement investment projects, renovate and expand the national power grid to remote villages and hamlets.

Since its establishment in 2012, Tra My Power Company under the old Quang Nam Power Company, now the Tra My Power Management Team under the Da Nang Power Company, has made continuous efforts to expand and develop the power grid system in the mountainous communes: Tra My, Tra Lien, Tra Giap, Tra Tan, Tra Doc, Nam Tra My, Tra Tap, Tra Van, Tra Linh and Tra Leng (two districts of Bac Tra My and Nam Tra My, old Quang Nam province). At the time of its establishment, the unit only managed 102 transformer stations, with a total length of over 295km of medium-voltage lines and 129km of low-voltage lines; the rate of villages with electricity was 86.3% for Bac Tra My district (old) and this figure was 61.6% for Nam Tra My district (old).

Over the past decade, thanks to continuous investment and determination to serve the community, the power grid system managed by Tra My Power Management Team has been significantly expanded, bringing the total to 292 transformer stations, over 475.5km of medium voltage lines and over 316km of low voltage lines. Up to now, most of the villages and hamlets of the above communes have national electricity, the rate of households using grid electricity has reached 81.8%, contributing to improving the socio -economic life of people in mountainous areas.

These telling numbers are also proof of the dedication, perseverance and responsibility of the staff of Tra My Electricity Management Team throughout the journey of bringing electricity to the people.

In recent times, the Tra My Electricity Management Team has closely coordinated with local authorities to implement many projects to supply electricity to villages without electricity; at the same time, renovate the power grid system in degraded areas, to ensure safety and stability of power sources. Many key projects such as medium voltage lines and transformer stations supplying electricity to the highland communes of Tra Cang (new Tra Tap commune), Tra Linh or the highland villages of Tra Ka commune (new Tra Giap commune), Tra Giac (new Tra Tan commune) have been completed on schedule, bringing joy to hundreds of households.

Village life changes

The presence of the national grid has brought about significant changes in the lives of the people in the mountainous areas. Electric light bulbs have gradually replaced the lack of light from kerosene lamps. Children have better learning conditions as they no longer have to study under dim light. Commune health stations are equipped with refrigerators to preserve vaccines, medical equipment is operated more stably, improving the quality of health care for the people. Schools in the highlands are provided with guaranteed electricity, contributing to improving the quality of education.

Not only serving daily life, electricity is also a driving force for production development. Many households have boldly invested in milling machines, agricultural processing, and developing livestock and crop models. Cooperatives and local production facilities have begun to operate more effectively thanks to a stable power source. In particular, the Ngoc Linh ginseng growing area in Tra Linh area is increasingly developing, improving the income of local people and creating jobs when a stable power grid is ensured. Along with that, thanks to electricity, opportunities to access information, connect to markets, and learn new techniques are increasingly expanding for people in the highlands.

Bringing light to every family in the remote highlands of Tra My area.

Mr. Tran Duy Dung - former Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district (old) said that thanks to investment in many electricity projects, the rate of households using national grid electricity in the area by the end of 2024 reached 84.4%; contributing to creating a clear change in infrastructure and promoting local development. The average economic growth rate in recent years (until 2024) has always reached from 9% to 10%.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Thanh - former Secretary of Bac Tra My District Party Committee (old), the average income per capita of the district by 2024 will reach more than 28 million VND/year, the poverty rate will decrease to 34.7%. The economic structure will shift towards increasing the proportion of industry - construction, accounting for 50.82% of the economy. This result is partly due to the important contribution of the widespread and stable and reliable power grid system.

The development of the power grid to remote areas has strategic significance in shortening the development gap between mountainous and lowland areas. Tra My Power Management Team always clearly identifies its role as not only providing electricity but also as a bridge contributing to the process of building new rural areas, developing infrastructure, and maintaining local security and defense.

In particular, the southwestern localities of Da Nang City have identified promoting digital transformation for socio-economic development. To achieve that goal, electricity is a key factor in deploying online public services, applications for production, education and healthcare. Thanks to electricity, smart radio stations, online classes, security camera systems, administrative management software, etc. have been strongly applied in mountainous communes under the management of the Tra My Electricity Management Team.

Towards sustainable development

With the efforts of Tra My Electricity Management Team in particular and Da Nang Electricity Company in general, people in the southwest highlands of the city have access to stable, quality and safe electricity; can buy electricity at the correct price regulated by the Government and enjoy direct electricity services of quality and convenience provided by the Electricity industry.

Determined to keep the power supply continuous and stable in mountainous areas with thunderstorms, lightning, and crops affecting the power grid.

Not stopping at the achievements, Tra My Power Management Team continues to aim to improve the quality of electricity, ensure stable and safe power supply for people, and at the same time promote the application of digital technology in the management and operation of the power grid. Investment in remote measurement systems, incident warning, remote grid monitoring, etc. is being gradually deployed, helping to improve operational efficiency and reduce incident handling time.

In addition, propaganda and mobilization of people to use electricity safely and economically are also focused. The unit regularly organizes consultation sessions, instructing people on how to use electrical equipment effectively, protect equipment and avoid electrical accidents.

In the journey of building an increasingly prosperous mountainous homeland, the presence of electricity plays a role as a blood vessel that nourishes all production, living and development activities. The unceasing efforts of the Tra My Electricity Management Team have been making an important contribution to bringing light to every roof, every village, opening up opportunities for comprehensive development for the people of the highlands, gradually realizing the goal of "leaving no one behind" according to the policy of the Party and the State.
