Dinh Anh Hoang won the men's singles championship for the first time with a brave performance.

NDO - Playing with great spirit and confidence in the final match, tennis player Dinh Anh Hoang (T&T People's Police) defeated veteran opponent Nguyen Anh Tu (Hanoi) with a score of 4-1, thereby winning the men's singles championship for the first time at the 43rd Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championship in 2025.

On the evening of May 26, the top competition between two leading Vietnamese table tennis players received enthusiastic cheers from fans at Tien Son Sports Palace (Da Nang).

In the first set, Dinh Anh Hoang entered the game with confidence and completely dominated the game. With his fast, decisive play and flexible handling of both his backhand and forehand, Anh Hoang made Anh Tu make continuous mistakes. The player from the T&T People's Police won 11-2, creating a mental advantage very early.

Not easily accepting the lead, Nguyen Anh Tu quickly adjusted his tactics in the second set. He increased his speed and continuously exploited the weakness in the right half of the table of his opponent. Thanks to that, Anh Tu won 11-5, bringing the match to a 1-1 balance, affirming the class of the player who had held the number 1 position in Vietnamese table tennis for many years.

However, from the third set onwards, the game gradually tilted towards Dinh Anh Hoang. His steady performance and high-speed ball-striking helped Anh Hoang overcome the thrilling score chase to win 11-9 in the third set.

Continuing the momentum, the player of T&T People's Police continued to take advantage of Anh Tu's inconsistent play to win 11-7 in the fourth set.

Entering the decisive fifth set, Anh Hoang completely dominated the game. His ability to flexibly handle serve and receive situations, along with precise finishing moves helped him win 11-6, closing the final match with a score of 4-1.

This victory not only helped Dinh Anh Hoang win the most prestigious men's singles title of the tournament but also marked a strong step forward in his career.

The player born in 2001 is gradually asserting his position as one of the future pillars of Vietnamese table tennis, especially when he simultaneously won the "hat-trick" of men's singles, men's doubles and men's team championships at this year's tournament.

Sharing with Nhan Dan Newspaper reporters after winning this championship, Dinh Anh Hoang expressed his indescribable joy. He said this was the result of many years of his own efforts.

"I have faced Nguyen Anh Tu many times but have not been able to win. This is the first time I have won against Anh Tu but in a meaningful final match.

I would like to thank my family, especially my wife who has worked hard at home taking care of the children to create conditions for me to compete, and thank Mr. Do Quang Hien for investing so that we could go to China for training recently, to have very good results like now.

Every day, every hour, I always think of opponents like Nguyen Anh Tu and Nguyen Duc Tuan, who are veteran athletes with good achievements. If I want to surpass them, I have to invest a lot of thought and practice hard," Dinh Anh Hoang shared.
