Staff suspended for refusing charity meals while students are in isolation

Regarding the incident of refusing charity meals, which occurred on October 8 at the University of Education - Thai Nguyen University, on the evening of October 10, the school representative said: The school has requested the meal provider to suspend the employee who refused to accept food in the above incident. At the same time, the meal provider is required to learn from experience and commit to not repeat the offense.

Previously, since October 9, information spread on social networks that during the rainy and flooded days, many students at the dormitory of the University of Education were isolated and had no electricity, while the dormitory canteen prevented the receiving of charity meals and sold rice for 30,000 VND/meal.

As soon as receiving information on social networks, the school proceeded to verify and check.

The results showed that on the morning of October 8, when the central area of Thai Nguyen province, including the University of Education, was deeply flooded, around 9:00 a.m. a person came to the school and said he wanted to give about 100 meals to isolated students.

However, the staff at the cafeteria were concerned about food safety issues and could not contact the Board of Directors for advice, so this person refused. In addition, this person did not accept money transfers but only cash. The school believes that this handling is too rigid. Furthermore, the refusal was the staff's intention, not the school's direction.

The school has requested the Provincial Police and relevant agencies to verify and strictly handle (if any) those involved, so as not to affect the school and students.

It is known that the current meal supplier has won the bid to supply meals for schools for the period 2020-2025. The highest price is set at 30,000 VND/meal.
