Hendrio has been officially registered by Hanoi FC to participate in V.League 2025/26 as a naturalized player. His Vietnamese name is Do Hoang Hen. However, up to now, he has not been able to play because the Brazilian striker's citizenship application process is still pending.
Anxiously waiting for Vietnamese citizenship
“This wait is a bit difficult for me, but I believe it is for a good reason. Becoming a Vietnamese citizen makes me very happy. Therefore, just be patient a little more, I will soon be able to compete and bring joy to everyone through my work,” midfielder Do Hoang Hen opened the conversation with Tri Thuc - Znews about the time when the naturalization procedure was not yet completed.
In the meantime, Do Hoang Hen still has to practice diligently. The player born in 1994 is waiting for the day he is officially recognized as a Vietnamese citizen to start a new journey. He said: “I practice hard every day to prepare for the day of return. The coaching staff also supports me a lot, helping me maintain the best physical condition and form for that time.”
Determined to become a part of the S-shaped country, Hoang Hen started learning Vietnamese two years ago. With nearly 5 years of living and playing in Vietnam, the midfielder born in 1994 gradually understood the life and culture of the local people.
“I started learning Vietnamese 2 years ago, it is a difficult language but now I feel comfortable speaking Vietnamese. I integrate well with the environment and my new teammates. The time in Vietnam helped me adapt quickly and feel more and more attached,” Hoang Hen shared.
That is the luggage that he hopes will help him become a true Vietnamese citizen, not only on the field but also in everyday life.

No more missed appointments with Hanoi Club
Before arriving in Vietnam at the end of 2020, Do Hoang Hen trained at Barcelona's famous La Masia academy. He signed a contract with Binh Dinh in January 2021 and quickly became one of the best attacking players in the V.League.
After that season, Do Hoang Hen transferred to Nam Dinh . In three seasons at Thien Truong Stadium, he played 63 matches, scored 19 goals and had 21 assists, contributing greatly to the 2023/24 V.League championship.
In fact, Hanoi FC once pursued Hoang Hen when he was about to leave Binh Dinh but was unsuccessful. It was not until Nam Dinh no longer kept him in their plans at the end of the 2024/25 season that the Capital team had the opportunity to own this midfielder.
Two months after leaving Nam Dinh, Do Hoang Hen agreed to sign a contract with Hanoi FC until the end of the 2027/28 season, when he will be 34 years old. This is the first notable contract of the former V.League champion team before the 2025/26 season.
“Hanoi is a great team and deserves to be in the top position. That is also the goal I am aiming for and I will try my best to achieve this with the team,” Do Hoang Hen affirmed.
If the naturalization process goes smoothly, the Brazilian striker can play from October 2025. In case the procedure is completed later, he will miss more matches before the V.League takes a break for the SEA Games.
Hope to be given a chance in the Vietnam team
Not only does he want to win titles with Hanoi FC, Do Hoang Hen also hopes to wear the Vietnam national team jersey. If all procedures are completed on schedule and coach Kim Sang-sik gives him the opportunity, he can debut for the national team in March 2026 when Vietnam plays Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

“As I have shared, if that comes true, it will be a great joy and honor for me. I love Vietnam and wearing the national team jersey will certainly be a privilege,” said Do Hoang Hen.
He affirmed that he always strives to improve his skills and maintain his fitness to be ready at all levels: "With that spirit, I believe I will always be ready."
Closing the conversation, Do Hoang Hen emphasized: “My wish is to strive for the national flag and bring glory to the country as well as be recognized by all coaches. With effort and dedication, I will continue to try my best to contribute to the club as well as the national team, as I have done for the past 5 years in Vietnam.”
From a boy who trained at La Masia to a player who is expected to play for Hanoi FC, Do Hoang Hen is embarking on a new journey with many expectations. There is only one short step left for him to officially become a Vietnamese citizen, ready to bring joy to fans, as promised from the first day he set foot on the S-shaped land.
