The State Bank listed the central exchange rate at 23,711 VND/USD, up 15 VND. The reference exchange rate at the State Bank Exchange is 23,400 - 24,846 VND/USD for buying and selling. The State's USD price is currently higher than that of commercial banks. Commercial banks increased the USD price by 10 VND, Eximbank bought at 23,250 - 23,330 VND and sold at 23,630 VND; Vietcombank bought at 23,290 - 23,320 VND, sold at 23,660 VND... USD interest rates on the interbank market for terms of less than 1 month are higher than VND interest rates, which rarely happens and also makes it difficult for the USD price to decrease further.
The greenback on the free market increased by 15 - 65 VND, buying at 23,490 VND and selling at 23,540 VND. The free USD has increased continuously in recent days but the selling price is about 100 VND/USD lower than in banks.
Free USD price continues to increase
The USD-Index increased by 0.23 points to 104.23 points. The US dollar increased in value when members of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) said that inflation is still high, nearly 5%, so it is not possible to temporarily stop raising interest rates. The market is placing the possibility that the Fed will increase interest rates by 0.25% at the June meeting. In addition, the issue of the US debt ceiling has not yet been resolved, negotiations are still taking place before the deadline on June 1.
In addition to information on the debt ceiling, next week the US will announce some other information that will affect the greenback such as consumer confidence, job opportunities, unemployment benefit applications, ADP non- farm employment , PMI manufacturing index announced by ISM, non-farm payrolls... These are factors that will affect the USD price, so investors are still waiting for news to know the trend of the greenback.
