Comrade Le Hoai Trung welcomed the delegation of the Portuguese Communist Party to visit Vietnam; thanked the General Secretary and leaders of the friendly Party for sending a letter of condolence on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and recently, sending a letter of congratulations to President To Lam on his election as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam , considering these as manifestations of comradely affection and solidarity between the two Parties.
Comrade Le Hoai Trung informed about the renovation policy of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the achievements and lessons learned over the past nearly 40 years; about Vietnam's foreign policy, including the policy of attaching importance to relations with communist parties and traditional friends; informed about the long-term goals set out, the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Congress and the preparation for the 14th National Congress of our Party.
Comrade General Secretary of the Communist Party of Portugal Paulo Raimundo expressed his pleasure in visiting Vietnam for the first time, witnessing the efforts and important socio -economic development achievements that the Vietnamese people have made under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam; highly appreciating the significance of the cause of Renovation and building socialism in Vietnam over the past nearly 40 years.
Comrade Paulo Raimundo affirmed that, in the context of complicated developments in the world and the region, with many difficulties and challenges, the Portuguese Communist Party considers the achievements of the Communist Party and the Vietnamese people as a common victory, a source of great spiritual encouragement for the Portuguese Communist Party and progressive forces fighting for peace, democracy and socialism in the world.
Within the framework of the talks, the two sides informed each other about the situation of the two Parties and two countries, new developments in Vietnam-Portugal relations, and a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The two sides also discussed and agreed on directions and measures to strengthen relations between the two Parties, contributing to promoting the friendship and cooperation between the two States and peoples, towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Portugal in 2025.
Before the talks, the delegation of the General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and his residence and workplace. The delegation continued to carry out activities according to the visit program until August 17.
