A former leader of the Quang Nam - Da Nang Provincial Party Committee shared that restructuring administrative boundaries is not a new thing for the country; but 50 years after unification, immediately reshaping the national governance system is not a simple matter. Many people ask, why is there only a rearrangement now? After half a century, the nation is once again united and reunited, there must be a reason!
Closer connection?
Looking at the map of the city boundaries of Da Nang after the merger, experts assess that there is an extremely important traffic axis that needs attention, which is National Highway 14, connecting from the urban center of Da Nang to the western mountainous areas and sharing to the east.
That traffic situation has existed for a long time, with branches named by letters: B, H, D… and has been called by people when traveling regularly. But it was not until today, connecting the entire traffic route “from the forest to the sea”, that the request to merge into one national highway 14 was seriously raised.
That is to say, the perception of unification and merger of administrative boundaries is not a “physical action”, but is associated with many expectations and waiting in the community. Despite many years of unification, they are still isolated and separated because of unconnected roads and passes. It is the local administrative thinking that has partly hindered those roads and paths.

Therefore, a consultant happily commented that Da Nang's re-connection with Quang Nam is a historical "adjustment" choice, truly removing the gap caused by the past social context.
When the administrative areas have been reunited, the responsibility of social management levels is to quickly gain a thorough and coherent understanding between the development areas, to immediately propose plans and solutions to help unify Quang Nam.
Not only stopping at the new administrative area, the management levels now also need to broaden their vision, have regional-level handling directions, the scale of economic and social management at the regional level such as from the foot of Hai Van Pass to Binh De Pass, even to Ca Pass. With such a broad perspective, the story of connecting the strength of the country and the people becomes much clearer and more coherent.
The merged city of Da Nang has a natural area of over 11,800 km2 and a population of over 3 million people. It has two airports, two first-class seaports and a fairly synchronous transport system, connecting seamlessly along the North-South and East-West axes. The total cargo throughput through Tien Sa port and Chu Lai port can reach 20 million tons/year.
More than 20 years of investment in developing the urban appearance of Da Nang has brought about a favorable situation for the people, from traffic to commercial freight transport, from telecommunication signal connection to receiving and delivering postal items...
The story of having to spend a whole day traveling from Tay Giang commune to the center of Da Nang will be a distant memory. And after the merger, the new Da Nang must truly be a smooth, convenient administrative boundary, satisfying the dreams of the people. Closer connections are truly a transparent expression of the country's aspirations!
Reunion through every street?
Artist Nguyen Thuong Hy, a person who is always passionate about Quang Nam culture, said that he recently took a trip to the western mountains. And realized that the Tien Phuoc longan fruits still take a long time to reach the Da Nang market; while Thai longan fruits are sold all over the streets of Da Nang because they are transported very quickly from the south.

Geographical distance turned out not to be the reason for the delay, but only because of the connecting roads, the responsibility for clearing the roads from management levels, and from the local trade capacity.
“As long as the basket of fish from Duy Hai has not been quickly transported to Hoa Khanh, or the bottle of Nam O fish sauce still lingers around Con market, the question of connection and development will still be very difficult,” the old artist confided.
Expanding this perspective, the story of merging localities, streamlining the administrative apparatus to successfully merge boundaries, is not really only seen in a specific geographical space.
Planning consultants point out that Highway 1, which runs along the country, will now be stronger with new intra-provincial axes, connecting mountains and seas, highlands and plains… like continuous fish bones.
A more dynamic and efficient logistics system is being formed from such a streamlining and merging policy. The people of the Central Highlands have now gone beyond their own boundaries, and the geological arcs of the East and West of the North have also been connected when the provinces and cities merged… These are all very new and very large opportunities to change the stature of each locality, and to join together as a developing nation in the new era.
Many people wonder, after the merger, between a more modern but cramped urban area like Da Nang, and an open space but still having too many problems like Quang Nam, what kind of interaction and arrangement is needed to be effective.

Da Nang now has the responsibility to share its urbanization and digital data lessons with the rural areas of Quang Nam; and vice versa, the vast advantages and natural harmony of the eastern sea and western mountains must be shared as investment attraction advantages of the new Da Nang.
Then how will the supporting and consumer industrial zones of Da Nang connect with the heavy industrial zones of Quang Ngai, how will the energy sand zones of Khanh Hoa integrate with the highlands of Gia Lai and Dak Lak..., all are bigger but more effective questions and challenges.
The nation strives to change, precisely in each harmonious and favorable connection, and the stature of national unity is evident in every urbanized street corner from Hue to the Southwest region...
A spirit of national unity was evident in today's merger, just like the whole nation marched 50 years ago!
