Typical enterprises of the economic locomotive - Part 1: Aspiration to rise

Over the past 50 years of national reunification, Ho Chi Minh City has always affirmed its position as one of the economic locomotives and a pioneering role, contributing 1/5 of GDP and 1/4 of the country's total budget revenue.

Behind those numbers is the unanimity and determination of a local government system, especially the key enterprises, typical units and people joining hands to contribute with courage, creativity and aspiration on the journey of development with the city in particular, as well as the whole country in general.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national reunification, VNA reporters have produced a series of two articles with the theme: "Typical enterprises of the economic locomotive" to review the achievements and contributions of the local business community and people on the journey of development with the city. Thereby, contributing to honoring key enterprises and typical units that have been recognized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and have built brand reputation in both domestic and international markets.

Lesson 1: Aspiration to grow

After 50 years of transformation and development with the country, Ho Chi Minh City is known and affirmed its position as the leading economic, commercial and service center of Vietnam. To achieve this position, over the past decades, specifically right after the country's reunification, despite facing numerous difficulties, the spirit of dedication, leadership and innovation of local businesses has always "burned" strongly in the aspiration to develop with the city in particular, as well as the whole country in general.

From production to flagship product

Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced the Program to vote and honor 50 typical enterprises - units with key brands and products, marking a historical milestone, depicting the half-century journey of construction and development of the city and where the business community has contributed to shaping a dynamic, creative and internationally integrated identity.

This is not only a program in a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification in Ho Chi Minh City, but also a recognition of the 50th anniversary of national reunification of the business community - units in Ho Chi Minh City. The units have continuously promoted production, trade development, innovation and technology application, creating brands associated with the city's name; contributing to making Ho Chi Minh City become the economic locomotive of the whole country, while raising the city's image in the international arena.

As the program’s implementing unit, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade Bui Ta Hoang Vu said: In the city, there are businesses that have been associated with the city since the early days after the country’s reunification and still maintain their pioneering role. In addition, these businesses are not only the leading factors in production and business, but also spread the wave of international economic integration, environmental protection, technological innovation… on the journey of tirelessly building and developing Vietnamese brands to reach the international level.

According to Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Bui Ta Hoang Vu, among the 50 typical enterprises - units with key brands and products of Ho Chi Minh City, many current leaders are second and third generation entrepreneurs and were born after 1975. They continue the family career and family legacy but with the mindset and capacity to innovate and create to adapt to the free trade market.

Honoring 50 typical enterprises - units with key brands and products of Ho Chi Minh City is not only a practical meaning towards the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification but also an activity to motivate the business community to continue to firmly step on the journey of development with the city, as well as promote the achievements of the previous generation of entrepreneurs in building the local economy.

Specifically in the field of production, from a business born from the passion of a team of doctors and nutritionists, Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company (Nutifood) has developed into a leading nutritional food company in Vietnam. Up to now, Nutifood's products are present in 63 provinces and cities across the country and in many countries around the world ; loved by millions of consumers thanks to its diverse portfolio, international quality, meeting the most stringent standards of "difficult" markets such as the US, Japan, Korea, European countries...

Regarding being in the top 50 enterprises - typical units with key brands and products of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Le Nguyen Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nutifood shared that this is not only a source of pride, but also a driving force for the enterprise to continue pursuing its mission since its inception, which is to improve the health and nutritional quality of Vietnamese people and make positive contributions to the community. This achievement is also thanks to the constant dedication of the Nutifood team and, more importantly, the trust and companionship of consumers nationwide, especially in Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City, throughout the 25 years of establishment and development of the enterprise.

Also one of the enterprises in the top 50 enterprises - typical units with key brands and products of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Co Gia Tho - Chairman of Thien Long Group Joint Stock Company (Thien Long) said that the enterprise started up right after the country's unification with only a family economic model. However, when Ho Chi Minh City implemented a policy of capital support for enterprises that committed to recruiting more workers, or initiated the establishment and mobilization of enterprises to enter industrial parks to have a flexible, standardized, easy-to-manage and environmentally friendly production place..., Thien Long took advantage of these policy mechanisms to have a solid launching pad on the journey of development with the city.

Currently, Thien Long is 44 years old, also the process of witnessing and participating in many policy mechanisms through each period of the country's great difficulties until it has the leading economic development in the region, and each period has its own challenges, so the internal strength of the enterprise is still the most important. Once the internal strength of the enterprise is not strong enough, it is difficult to overcome small difficulties, so since it was a small establishment, Thien Long has focused on building a management foundation such as quality management system, labor protection, production safety to health for workers... and that is also the reason why Thien Long products can be exported to the global market.

Outstanding brand reaching international level

Notably, among the 50 typical enterprises - units with brands and key products of Ho Chi Minh City, in the medical field, there are 6 units that are final-level hospitals with high professional prestige, specialized treatment techniques, attracting people and tourists from both inside and outside the country. Typically, Cho Ray Hospital, established in 1900, is one of the largest special-class general hospitals in Vietnam and is the first hospital in Vietnam to be recognized as a member of the International Hospital Federation (IHF).

Cho Ray Hospital currently has 5 major centers including: Oncology Center, Training - Line Command Center, Drug Information Center and Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center of Ho Chi Minh City, Blood Transfusion Center, Cardiovascular Center. In particular, the hospital has applied ECMO technology to save the lives of many critically ill patients during the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully prepared the radioactive drug Ga-68 to support cancer diagnosis, helping patients avoid having to receive treatment abroad.

Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc - Deputy Minister of Health, concurrently in charge of Cho Ray Hospital, said that to achieve today's achievements, Cho Ray Hospital has always affirmed that it is a "son" of the city named after Uncle Ho. Without the support of the leaders and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Cho Ray Hospital would not have built a brand that goes beyond the locality and across borders. Through four generations of leadership, Cho Ray Hospital has operated with solidarity to create strength to overcome the times, in which to maintain the prestigious brand in the industry, one of the most important pillars of the hospital is "people", or in other words, developing high-quality human resources.

Meanwhile, in the field of education and training, with its positive contributions to training, research and social responsibility, along with the development of Ho Chi Minh City over the past 50 years, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) has been honored as one of the 50 typical enterprises - units with key brands and products of Ho Chi Minh City. Established in 1976, UEH has accompanied the process of national reunification, reconstruction and development of the city and has now become the key unit providing highly qualified human resources - a factor playing a decisive role in the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City, the Southern region, as well as the whole country.

According to Professor, Dr. Su Dinh Thanh, Director of UEH, as one of the first national key public universities to be granted autonomy by the Government very early, UEH has become one of 9 higher education institutions in Vietnam operating under the model of "Multidisciplinary, multi-field university", the cradle of training high-quality human resources, internationalization and becoming the first higher education institution in Vietnam to achieve quality accreditation at the educational institution level of FIBAA. With nearly half a century of experience, UEH has trained hundreds of thousands of cadres, economists, managers with university and postgraduate degrees for Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the whole country; has held and is holding important positions in state management agencies; domestic and foreign enterprises; leaders, lecturers of universities, colleges...

Statistics of 50 typical enterprises - units with brands and key products of Ho Chi Minh City honored by the city, with revenue reaching over 461,000 billion VND, contributing to the city budget over 10,500 billion VND. More notably, this business community - unit always accompanies and contributes to the city's social security activities throughout the journey of development and building its brand.
