With an agricultural land area of more than 416 hectares, of which rice growing area accounts for nearly 90%, Yen Binh commune is the locality with the largest agricultural land area in Vinh Tuong district.
The greenhouse grape growing model of Mr. Vu Van Yen, Noi village, Yen Binh commune brings high economic efficiency.
Implementing the province's policy of land consolidation and exchange, the commune oriented and mobilized people to proactively collect land, forming large model fields with an average area of 360m2/plot, creating favorable conditions for mechanization in production.
In addition, every year, the Commune People's Committee coordinates with the agricultural sector to support high-quality rice varieties corresponding to 70 - 80% of the total cultivated area; at the same time, support fertilizers and agricultural materials to help improve productivity and cultivation value.
Currently, 100% of the cultivated area in the commune has been mechanized in land preparation and harvesting, thanks to which the average rice yield reaches 65 - 67 quintals/ha, higher than the average of the whole province.
In the winter crop, taking advantage of some ineffective rice growing agricultural land, many households convert rice growing areas to growing sweet potatoes and pumpkins for high economic efficiency.
On average, each winter crop, the whole commune has about 70 hectares of sweet potatoes and 100 hectares of pumpkin with a yield of more than 13 tons/ha.
With suitable soil and superior agricultural product quality, the brand "Yen Binh Sweet Potato" is increasingly affirming its solid position in the market, has stable output and is certified as a 3-star OCOP product.
Currently, sweet potatoes in the commune are purchased at a price of 10,000 - 13,000 VND/kg, higher than the general market price, creating a source of income for many households.
Grasping the trend of high-tech agricultural development, in recent years, some households in the commune have boldly invested and applied science and technology to grow some fruit trees with high economic value.
Taking us on a tour of the greenhouse grape growing model with a scale of more than 1 hectare in Noi village, Mr. Vu Van Yen, Director of Quang Phuc Cooperative (model owner) said:
“Recognizing the economic value of grapevines, after many years of research and learning techniques, in 2019, I decided to invest in experimental planting of two varieties of peony and black grapes in a greenhouse, installing an automatic watering and fertilizing system.
Although the initial investment capital was relatively large, with the encouragement and support of local authorities and credit institutions, I was able to access preferential loans.
In addition, we were supported with 2 tons of fertilizer, nearly 200 million VND to invest in seeds and agricultural materials from the province's agricultural support policy to implement the model. Currently, each harvest averages nearly 100 quintals of grapes/ha, with purchase prices ranging from 150,000 to 350,000 VND/kg.
Besides the annual crop cultivation area, the livestock scale in Yen Binh commune has also developed with a total herd of 8,000 cattle and nearly 78,500 poultry.
Taking advantage of low-lying areas for aquaculture, the whole commune currently has nearly 40 hectares of fish farming with an average output of 165 tons of fish per year.
Regarding the development of small-scale industry, trade and services, the whole commune currently has nearly 100 small-scale industry production establishments and more than 150 trade and service business households.
In particular, in recent years, the profession of weaving folding beds and chairs has developed strongly in the locality, creating stable jobs for about 500 workers, most of whom are idle agricultural workers.
The profession of weaving folding beds and chairs in Yen Binh commune creates jobs for many workers during the off-season.
Mr. Tran Van Thuan, owner of a folding bed and chair manufacturing facility in Yen Tru village, said: “Weaving folding beds and chairs does not require much labor, but it does require time and meticulousness, suitable for idle agricultural labor.
With an average production scale of about 2,000 products per month, the facility is creating jobs for 10 regular workers, with an average income of 9-10 million VND/person/month and 40 seasonal workers, with an average income of 5-6 million VND/person/month.
Under the leadership of the Party Committee, the government and the solidarity and consensus of the people in implementing socio-economic development tasks, in 2024, the average income per capita in Yen Binh commune will reach more than 72 million VND/year, higher than the average level of rural areas in the whole province.
Vice Chairwoman of Yen Binh Commune People's Committee Le Thi Huong said: "Promoting the potential of geographical location and natural conditions, the local government always creates the best conditions for people to develop the economy, increase income, and improve the quality of life.
In addition, the commune focuses on mobilizing all resources to the maximum in investing and building infrastructure for socio-economic development, most clearly demonstrated through the implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Construction with 19/19 criteria meeting advanced new rural standards.
To successfully achieve socio-economic development goals, Yen Binh commune continues to focus investment resources, improve infrastructure; orient and create favorable conditions for people to develop effective economic models, encourage the creation of more jobs for local workers; maintain and improve the criteria of new rural areas, aiming to build a commune that meets model new rural standards.
