Bao Lam: Elevating OCOP product brand

Bao Lam district is famous for many 034 avocado gardens certified as products meeting OCOP standards.

Currently, Bao Lam district has 64 agricultural products certified as OCOP products, certified products such as: avocado 034, durian, coffee, pineapple, macadamia, Laba banana, vegetables, tomatoes, mangosteen, black fungus, rice wine, honey, ginger juice, turmeric, aeroponic vegetables...

When it was first established, Bao Lam district was a poor district of Lam Dong province, with agricultural economy accounting for more than 90% of the district's economy. Agricultural production was still monoculture, mainly based on two main crops: tea and coffee, but most of them were old varieties with low productivity and quality. With advantages in land, water resources and climate suitable for developing large-scale agricultural production with key agricultural products such as tea, coffee and fruit trees; in recent times, the district has focused on leading and directing the promotion of agricultural restructuring in a comprehensive, sustainable and modern direction. Up to now, agricultural production has developed quite comprehensively, the production value of the agricultural sector at comparable prices in 2010 (period 1994 - 2025) increased by 9.42%; the work of converting crop structure has achieved many positive results; The application of scientific and technological advances in production has made strong progress. Many production models have been applied according to safety standards. The area of ​​high-tech production is increasing with over 9,000 hectares.

Along with that, local OCOP products are known in domestic and foreign markets, typically Got Coffee with Earl Flavor, machine-brewed coffee beans of Nguyen Phuc Nong Company Limited in Village 12, Loc Thanh Commune; Royal Coffee of Luong Thi Vinh's household in Village 5, B'La Commune; Lek Coffee powder of Ka Nhuy's household in Village 15, Loc Thanh Commune; roasted Robusta coffee of Organic Tea and Coffee Doi May business household in Village 4, Loc Tan Commune... In particular, the Got Coffee brand of Nguyen Phuc Nong Company was honored by the Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Rural Development as the "Golden Brand of Vietnamese Agriculture in 2023".

Currently, durian has been bringing in billions of dong in income for local people, many products are OCOP certified such as: Long Thuy durian of Long Thuy Production and Trading Company Limited in Village 6, Loc An Commune; K'Thien durian of K'Thien business household in Hang Ka Village, Loc Bao Commune; Thai Anh Khoi durian of Anh Khoi business household, Village 4, Loc Bac Commune; Ong Cay durian of Mr. Nguyen Van Cay's household, Village 3, Loc Duc; Hai Son durian of Hai Son business household, Village 3, Loc Bao Commune...

When mentioning Bao Lam, everyone knows that it is a large avocado growing area of ​​Lam Dong province. There are many famous avocado products such as LD 034 Binh Minh avocado of Binh Minh Cooperative in Village 12, Loc Ngai; Booth7 avocado of Loc An Clean Agricultural Products and Services Cooperative in Village 6, Loc An commune; LD 034 Ong Tho avocado of Phung Quang Tho business household, Village 12, Loc Phu commune... Currently, it is the avocado harvest season, according to the district's Department of Agriculture and Environment, the local avocado area is about 1,256 hectares, of which about 500 hectares are pure cultivation, about 756 hectares are intercropped, the avocado yield is estimated at 13 tons/ha; the total output of all kinds of avocados is 13,500 tons. Although the output has decreased this year, the increased price has helped many farmers have more income.

A new point in the OCOP Program in Bao Lam is the success of aeroponic vegetables such as: dandelion, Tien Vua lettuce of Vietnam Aeroponic Agricultural Products Production and Trading Company Limited in Village 6, Loc Nam Commune has been certified as 3-star OCOP; aeroponic squash, aeroponic cucumber of Vietnam Aeroponic Clean Vegetable Production Investment Company Limited in Village 12, Loc Thanh Commune has been certified as 3-star OCOP products.

In order to have a source of clean vegetables to supply to the market and create a tourist attraction, direct guidance for everyone, Vietnam Aeroponic Agricultural Products Production and Trading Company Limited has invested in building 4 vegetable gardens in two localities. In Loc Thanh commune, 2 gardens were built on the production land of Mr. Pham The Tuan's family; and in Loc Nam commune, 2 gardens were built on the production land of Mr. Dinh Cong Trang's family. Each vegetable garden has over 200 pillars, with an area of ​​about 2,000 m2 ^, mainly lettuce. According to Mr. Trang, the company wants to choose lettuce to create a brand and impress consumers, because lettuce grown using aeroponic techniques has a delicious, sweet taste with its own unique characteristics. Currently, the average harvest is 10 kg/pillar/crop in 25 days. It turns out that each month, Mr. Tuan and Mr. Trang harvest 1 ton of lettuce, with a selling price of 35,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, they earn 25 - 30 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tung - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bao Lam district said: Developing OCOP products is important in building new rural areas, shifting the agricultural economic structure, and improving the lives of local people. However, currently, OCOP products also face some difficulties such as limited product promotion and introduction activities; customers still do not fully understand the difference between OCOP products and regular agricultural products... Therefore, in order for the OCOP Program to go into depth, every year, Bao Lam district has included the content of the program in the district's socio-economic development plan to direct implementation. Integrating the implementation of the program's content in regular meetings and inter-sectoral conferences of the district to propagate the OCOP Program to all levels, sectors, communes, towns and people to understand and know about the program to actively participate in implementation.
