According to a VNA reporter in Singapore, from May 20-22, the Semiconductor Industry Exhibition Southeast Asia (SEMICON SEA) 2025 will take place at the Sands Expo & Convention Center with the theme "Stronger Together."

Participating in the exhibition, Vietnam for the first time had a national booth to promote and connect, while the National Innovation Center (NIC) coordinated with partners to organize the Vietnam Investment Forum.

More than 500 businesses and technology corporations participated in SEMICON SEA 2025 with a scale of more than 1,000 booths, attracting about 20,000 visitors.

According to the Organizing Committee, the choice of this year's theme comes from the urgent need for cooperation in the Southeast Asian electronics industry.

Amid diverse challenges such as economic volatility, regulatory changes and geopolitical complexities, industry stakeholders need to move beyond self-interest to build partnerships and share expertise to collectively face common challenges and foster resilience.

By harnessing the power of collective action, the semiconductor industry can amplify competitive advantage, drive innovation, and build a sustainable ecosystem that thrives on solidarity and mutual support.

Within the framework of the exhibition, on May 20, NIC coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore, Meta Group and the Southeast Asia Semiconductor Association to organize a Vietnam investment forum with the theme "Vietnam - Destination for innovation and strategic technology" to promote cooperation and investment in strategic technologies such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), smart manufacturing, high technology...

The forum gathered more than 150 delegates from leading technology corporations, research institutes, and universities in Vietnam, Singapore, and internationally such as Meta, Cadence, Marvell, Dassault Systèmes, Siemens EDA, A*Star, Becamex, Viettel, FPT , Deep C, Ho Chi Minh City National University, and representatives from localities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Giang, etc.

The forum focuses on four key objectives: Promoting the investment environment and high-tech ecosystem in Vietnam; Introducing the Government's priority policies in strategic areas such as semiconductors, AI, digital technology , smart manufacturing; Connecting businesses-research institutes-international partners, promoting technology transfer; Cooperating in training and developing semiconductor human resources, aiming to build a regional talent training center in Vietnam.

At the forum, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh emphasized: “The theme of SEMICON Southeast Asia this year, ‘Stronger Together’, resonates deeply with Vietnam’s approach to global partnerships and its vision for a prosperous technological future. The Vietnamese government has identified innovation and technology as key drivers of breakthrough growth…

This forum is a strategic platform to introduce Vietnam’s investment environment and supporting policies for sectors such as semiconductors, electronics, AI and advanced manufacturing. We aim to promote open dialogue to increase investment efficiency and cooperation between Vietnamese entities and international partners.”

During the panel discussion “Unlocking Vietnam’s High-Tech Potential,” representatives from Dassault Systèmes, Siemens, Marvell, Deep C, the Management Board of High-Tech Parks, and local authorities such as Bac Giang shared many strategic perspectives to promote investment linkages and develop a sustainable technology ecosystem in Vietnam.

Sharing with VNA reporters in Singapore, Mr. Vu Quoc Huy - Director of NIC - said that in order to mobilize domestic and foreign resources for innovation as well as for strategic industries, NIC researched and developed a very specific plan to approach and exchange with major partners abroad, especially large technology corporations of developed countries such as the US, Singapore, Korea, Japan... to implement incubation programs for training, promote investment, build offices, research and development centers in the field of strategic technology in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Vu Quoc Huy, up to now, NIC has built a very large system of partners to carry out investment activities and support innovation in Vietnam, for example, cooperation activities with Meta.

This year, NIC cooperated with Meta to deploy a program to mobilize solutions to build an open-source Vietnamese Dataset for AI applications in Vietnam, called ViGen.

If this Vietnamese Dataset is successfully built, AI applications will become more popular and convenient for Vietnamese people.

Affirming Meta's close cooperation with NIC in particular and Vietnam in general, Mr. Rafael Frankel - Director of Public Policy for Asia-Pacific of Meta - said that this is the third year Meta has participated in the Vietnam Innovation Challenge program.

Last year, Meta focused on AI and semiconductors. This year, Meta is focused on building the ViGen Project, one of the largest Vietnamese datasets ever built for open-source Large Language Modeling (LLM). Rafael Frankel revealed that Meta is making a huge AI investment in Vietnam.

Vietnamese enterprises participating in the event also made efforts to attract foreign investment. Mr. Dang Tan Duc - Director of Becamex Science and Technology Industrial Park Management Board - shared the company's efforts in recent times in building the VSIP technology ecosystem, including cooperation with universities and research institutes, including universities and research institutes in Singapore, as well as Singapore's vocational training system.

Mr. Dang Tan Duc emphasized: “Recently, during the visit of Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to Vietnam, we announced the establishment of the VSIP International Advisory Council on Science, Technology and Innovation. This is a platform for us to mobilize the intelligence and contributions from leaders, universities, colleges, vocational schools, and high-tech manufacturing corporations in the region to contribute ideas and shape a new generation VSIP 2.0 model, thereby attracting high-tech FDI capital flows as well as supporting the promotion and development of Vietnamese startups and small and medium-sized enterprises that can closely link with these FDI enterprises to form an ecosystem, a production supply chain that is both flexible and capable of attracting and retaining technology corporations to continue to produce, develop, and expand operations in Vietnam, in both production and research and development activities.”

Assessing the investment environment for innovation in Vietnam, Mr. Ng Aik Hock - Director of Public Services and Cities in Asia-South Pacific of Dassault Systèmes - commented: “Vietnam is one of the fastest growing industrial hubs in the world, supported by a strong government, promoting Industry 4.0 and stable manufacturing, racing in digitalization. This creates a need to promote product lifecycle management solutions and virtual twin technology. Dassault Systèmes is increasing investment and resources to serve both current and future Vietnamese customers.”

Vietnam's series of activities in SEMICON SEA 2025, with the participation of leading enterprises and research organizations, has marked an important step in bringing Vietnam deeper into the global semiconductor supply chain./.
