Vietnam participates in Sahara Desert Tourism Festival

According to a VNA correspondent in Algeria, the 7th International Sahara Desert Tourism Festival opened on December 4 in Timimoun province of Algeria. The Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria coordinated with two major Vietnamese tourism businesses, Saigontourist and Vietravel, to open booths to introduce Vietnamese tours, attracting great interest and attention from international tourists.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria said that in addition to a number of publications introducing tourism products of Saigontourist and Vietravel, Vietnam's booth at the festival also featured many large-sized photos of famous landscapes such as Hoan Kiem Lake, Trang An Eco-tourism Area, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Hoi An Ancient Town, Ban Gioc Waterfall, and terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai. In addition, when visiting Vietnam's booth, international visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy coffee, ginger jam and see some unique handicraft products.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung - Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria - directly introduced to Algerian and international tourists some Vietnam tours of Saigontourist and Vietravel , and advised tourists on famous destinations in Vietnam as well as procedures for applying for entry visas.

Sharing his plans to visit Vietnam, Mr. Abdullah - an Algerian citizen - said he loves and respects the Vietnamese people for their strength and resilience. In the past, the Vietnamese people fought bravely against powerful imperialists and colonialists.

According to the Algerian Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, this year's festival aims to honor the unique cultural identity of the Sahara Desert. The festival is considered one of the important international events to affirm the Algerian State's interest in developing Sahara Desert tourism, in line with the orientation of economic model innovation. The event contributes to promoting investment, perfecting tourism infrastructure, improving service quality, expanding cooperation and promoting typical tourism products of Southern Algeria.

During the 3-day festival, the Organizing Committee will hold seminars with the participation of many domestic and foreign experts; at the same time, organize many diverse cultural and artistic programs, including folk art performances and many types of traditional music expressing the artistic heritage of the Gourara region. Space for artisans will also be arranged to display and commercialize local handicrafts.

The choice of Timimoun – “the city of red castles” – as the venue aims to showcase the image of Southern Algeria, which has great potential to attract domestic and foreign tourists, thanks to its cultural diversity, beautiful oases, traditional crafts and the depth of local history.
