National Green Tourism Annual Forum Promotes Sustainable Development

During 2 days (December 4-5), the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province and the Swiss Tourism Project for Sustainable Development in Vietnam (ST4SD) organized the annual National Green Tourism Forum.

The Forum is a practical activity to implement the National Strategy and National Action Plan on Green Growth for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, while promoting the implementation of the Government's and Prime Minister's directives in ensuring growth targets for sectors and fields, including tourism, such as Resolution No. 82/NQ-CP of the Government on key tasks and solutions to accelerate recovery and accelerate effective and sustainable tourism development; Directive No. 08/CT-TTg dated February 23, 2024 of the Prime Minister on comprehensive, rapid and sustainable tourism development in the coming time.

This is also the first annual Forum organized to raise awareness and promote strong, positive actions of all levels, sectors, tourism entities and local communities in practicing green tourism in Vietnam; creating a strong change from awareness to action in practicing green tourism, contributing to changing the image of Vietnamese tourism to suit market demand and tourism development trends in the world , thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese destinations on the world tourism map.

The Forum includes 2 activities: survey and field research on some Green Tourism models in Lam Dong and main discussion sessions with the participation of more than 100 delegates including leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders and professional staff of the Department of Tourism, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; associations, businesses operating in the tourism sector, tourism training institutions, scientists and leading policy experts and experts from Switzerland.

The main content of the Forum focused on two main discussion sessions. The first session, entitled "Models, initiatives and policies for managing green tourism destinations in Vietnam - Perspectives from stakeholders", provided an overview of green tourism development in Vietnam, models, experiences and initiatives on green transformation from organizations and countries around the world; and introduced typical domestic models and initiatives. The second session, titled "Action framework for developing green tourism in Vietnam in the new context", focused on discussing key tasks and specific solutions for the coming period.

The main contents presented include: developing a Toolkit to implement green transformation in Vietnam tourism, including a set of criteria for green tourism development and related initiatives. The discussion session also emphasized the need to build a network of stakeholders involved in the transformation process; making proposals on mechanisms to encourage innovative and creative ideas to promote green tourism development and effective management of green tourism destinations in Vietnam.
