Spreading inspiration and strengthening social belief in the power of science and technology

At the VinFuture Awards ceremony, the National Assembly Chairman said that these research projects will continue to strengthen society's belief in the power of science and technology in solving urgent problems.

On the evening of December 5, at Hoan Kiem Theater (Hanoi), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended and spoke at the VinFuture 2025 Global Annual Science and Technology Awards Ceremony.

Also attending the ceremony were: Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc; representatives of leaders of a number of central and local departments, ministries and branches.

The award ceremony was attended by Professor Richard Henry Friend, Chairman of the VinFuture Prize Council; two founders of the VinFuture Foundation, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong - Chairman of Vingroup and Ms. Pham Thu Huong - Permanent Vice President of Vingroup; Ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic agencies of various countries, representatives of leaders of international organizations in Vietnam; members of the Prize Council, VinFuture Preliminary Council, leading scientists from the country and the world.

Founded in 2020 with the mission of promoting science to serve humanity, after only 5 years, VinFuture has become a prestigious destination for the world's scientific community, gathering many Nobel laureates and other prestigious awards, while connecting researchers to find answers to the most urgent questions of the time.

The theme of this year's award is "Together we grow - Together we prosper" as a strong global call for development, in the spirit of solidarity, progress, sharing, creating opportunities for all people and all nations.

It is also the spirit of overcoming the limits of knowledge, promoting global cooperation and bringing practical benefits to humanity.

Speaking at the award ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that looking back on the past 5 years, it can be affirmed that this award not only honors outstanding scientific works but also creates valuable dialogues and forums between scientists, businesses and policy makers; from there, new ideas, new approaches, new cooperation models are opened up and widely spread.

After 5 seasons, there have been more than 6,000 nominations sent from nearly 110 countries and territories on all 5 continents; 48 outstanding scientists have been honored, who are leading trends in the most important scientific fields such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, biotechnology, new materials, precision medicine, food security...

Appreciating, acknowledging and sincerely thanking the persistent efforts, commitments and high responsibilities of the founders of VinFuture Foundation, the National Assembly Chairman said that Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong and his wife have devoted their heart and great resources to promoting the science award, contributing to spreading the humanistic values ​​of science, bringing to the world the image of the country and people of Vietnam as rich in intelligence, compassion and will and aspiration for development.

The National Assembly Chairman also sincerely thanked the Award Council for its high sense of responsibility, maintaining independent scientific viewpoints, creating prestige and success for the award.

This year, the award continues to record a large number of nominations with 1,705 applications, nearly 3 times more than the first season. The scientific works all demonstrate strong innovative thinking and pioneering creativity.

"These research projects will continue to inspire and strengthen society's belief in the power of science and technology in solving urgent global problems," the National Assembly Chairman emphasized.

According to the National Assembly Chairman, the world is facing many complex changes. Climate change, epidemics, energy security, food security, economic fluctuations and even unknown risks from science, technology and new technologies require each country to find a suitable path of development. Science can only truly exert its power when there is extensive, equal and sustainable international cooperation.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that in recent times, the Party and State of Vietnam have issued many important policies of historical significance, marking new development milestones such as innovation in thinking in law making and enforcement, identifying law making as "a breakthrough of breakthroughs," developing science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation, international integration in the new situation, developing the private economy, education and training, healthcare, etc.

In particular, Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo identifies science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as key driving forces of the new development stage.

The National Assembly passed Resolution 193/2025/QH15, paving the way for specific experimental mechanisms to create a more open creative space for intellectuals and more favorable conditions for scientists and businesses to implement ideas and inventions to serve practical requirements.

Vietnam wishes to work with the world's scientific community to promote cooperation in researching common issues of humanity, promote academic exchanges, train high-quality human resources, cooperate in technology transfer and implement green and inclusive development models.

"We are ready to accompany countries, organizations and research institutes in the spirit of openness, responsibility and mutual respect. Vietnam will continue to be a reliable and attractive destination for scientists so that creative values ​​can be shared and spread strongly to the international community," the National Assembly Chairman affirmed.

Reiterating General Secretary To Lam's statement that: Developing science, technology, innovation and digital transformation is not only a choice, but a way of survival, the National Assembly Chairman emphasized that Vietnam is committed to building a transparent legal environment, creating favorable conditions for innovation models to be deployed effectively and safely, contributing positively to the development of the region and the world.

At the ceremony, Professor Richard Henry Friend, Chairman of the VinFuture Prize Council, expressed his pride in accompanying the Foundation in its great mission of honoring scientific discoveries that bring practical benefits to millions, even billions of people around the world.

“The 2025 honorees have made outstanding scientific discoveries that have contributed to the great benefits to society, both in terms of human well-being and sustainable development. Their work reminds us that science is not just about knowledge, but also about responsibility – the responsibility to contribute to a better future for the planet and future generations,” said Professor Richard Henry Friend.

Sending his congratulations to the winning scientists, Professor Richard Henry Friend emphasized that this is a testament to the value of perseverance, spirit of service and belief in the power of knowledge; hoping that the scientists will continue to promote their excellent research to continue bringing more benefits to the world community.

Over the past five seasons, VinFuture has honored many outstanding scientists, who have subsequently gone on to be recognized with other prestigious awards around the world.

Among them is Professor Omar Yaghi - who was honored with the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) that open up major applications for clean energy.

He is the recipient of the VinFuture Special Prize for Scientists researching emerging fields in 2021. In the same year, two scientists won the VinFuture Main Prize - Professor Katalin Kariko and Professor Drew Weissman, who later received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2023.

The VinFuture Special Prize for Scientists researching emerging fields in 2022 was awarded to John Jumper and Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind) for their breakthrough in AI simulation of protein structures, which led them to the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

In 2024, Professor Geoffrey Hinton was honored with the VinFuture Grand Prize and also received the Nobel Prize in Physics in the same year.

Informing that tonight's award ceremony is also the highlight of the VinFuture Science and Technology Week with multidisciplinary activities and discussions - from biomedicine, food agriculture, robotics and smart automation to science for a sustainable future, Professor Richard Henry Friend believes that VinFuture is expanding beyond the framework of an award. VinFuture has connected the world's intellectual elite, the spirit of responsibility and the aspiration to serve humanity.

Throughout the Award Ceremony, VinFuture 2025's message of "Rising Together - Prospering Together" was told in the language of contemporary art, combined with Vietnamese identity.

The carefully prepared performances recreated VinFuture's 5-year journey: From the origin of aspiration to global impact. Alongside the science stars, the VinFuture Awards 2025 stage featured Alicia Keys - a global music icon, owner of 17 prestigious Grammy gold statues.

Meanwhile, Intervision 2025 champion Duc Phuc, in his first appearance, delivered a performance combining the beauty of national culture with modern music, portraying a Vietnam rich in identity and growing strongly on the journey of integration.
