Lam Dong's first enterprise exports tea bags from coffee husks to Japan

(LĐ online) - Cascara tea (coffee husk tea) is the result of nearly 12 years of research and testing by Viet Thao Nhien Company Limited, which has been signed an export contract with a partner to the supermarket system in the Japanese market, opening up opportunities for products from agricultural by-products, helping coffee growers have additional sources of income.

On the afternoon of May 21, Viet Thao Nhien Company Limited (Loc Son Industrial Park, Bao Loc City) officially exported a batch of Cascara tea bags made from coffee husks to the Japanese market. This is the first batch in a 5-year contract that Viet Thao Nhien Company signed with a Japanese partner to bring into the supermarket system in the land of the rising sun.

This shipment is packed in 1 container with a total weight of 2 tons of Cascara tea with traditional flavors (all coffee husks) and orange, cinnamon, ginger, mint flavors (original) without using any food additives.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh - Director of Viet Thao Nhien Company Limited, up to now, Viet Thao Nhien is the first unit in Lam Dong province in particular and the whole country in general to export Cascara tea from coffee husks to the Japanese market. The product is produced from Arabica coffee husks from Da Sar region (Lac Duong district) and Dak Nong province. The tea product has a light flavor, sweet aftertaste, rich in antioxidants.

“To achieve today's results, Viet Thao Nhien has spent nearly 12 years researching and testing the processing of tea from coffee husks using the fermentation process. Currently, Viet Thao Nhien owns a fully automated factory system that meets international standards (ISO 22000, FDA, Halal...); at the same time, it has cooperated to build high-quality coffee material areas in Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces, which are certified by Rainforest Alliance and USDA.

With the spirit of innovation and sustainable development, the Company continuously applies the exclusive enzyme-probiotic technology that has been patented in the US to effectively extract valuable active ingredients from coffee fruit peels. In the contract signed with the partner, the Company commits to supplying 12 containers (24 tons) of Cascara tea to the Japanese market in the first year. The output will gradually increase in the following years" - Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh said.

In the coming time, the Company will continue to export other products from coffee husks to the Japanese market such as bottled Cascara juice, Cascara ground powder and Cascara extract powder. These are products that the Japanese partner has signed a contract for application in kombucha drinks, food and high-end cosmetics production.

In addition, Viet Thao Nhien is currently also providing raw materials from coffee husks with an estimated output of about 1,000 tons of finished products/year for partners producing and processing soft drinks in the domestic market.

The successful processing and production of Cascara tea by Viet Thao Nhien is contributing to solving environmental problems and moving towards building a green circular agriculture which is a trend in the world as well as in Vietnam.

To ensure export sources, Viet Thao Nhien commits to accompany farmers in exploiting agricultural by-products from high-quality coffee husks. Thereby, contributing to increasing income, protecting the environment and spreading the sustainable agricultural value chain nationwide and internationally.
