Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province said: To prepare conditions for durian export in the 2025 crop year, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province has organized work and inspected packaging facilities and durian growing areas in the whole province.

In particular, inspections were conducted on large-scale durian growing units, enterprises and households including: Long Thuy Production and Trading Company Limited, B'LaoFood Company Limited, Bao Phuc Hoa Nam Company Limited, Inova Da Lat Agriculture Company Limited, Hiep Huyen Di Linh Company Limited, Da M'ri Agricultural Cooperative.

These are units specializing in production and packaging to serve the durian export market in Bao Lam, Di Linh, Da Huoai districts and Bao Loc city.

The inspection showed that people strictly followed the regulations on producing safe products and ensuring quality. The authorities also took samples for testing and did not detect durian contaminated with banned substances such as yellow O (Auramine O), heavy metals Cadmium, lead and ensured standards for serving the export market.

In 2024, the total durian area in the province will reach 25,610 hectares with a harvest output of 175,282 tons.

In 2024, the total durian area in the province will reach 25,610 hectares with a harvest output of 175,282 tons; of which, the pure planting area is 11,397 hectares (9,121 hectares in the business phase), the intercropping area is 14,213 hectares (4,816 hectares in the business phase).

To date, the province has granted 114 durian growing area codes with an area of 5,489.13 hectares (accounting for 60.2% of the total pure growing business area) and 10 durian packaging facilities to serve the export market. In 2024, durian export output will reach 25,518 tons, with a total export turnover of about 104.15 million USD, an increase of 2.72 million USD compared to 2023.

Currently, the province's main durian growing areas are entering the harvest season to serve the domestic and export markets. According to records in Da Huoai district, the largest durian growing area in Lam Dong province, grade 1 durian is currently being purchased by traders at the garden at a price of 50,000 - 70,000 VND/kg depending on the type.

Currently, the price of durian at gardens in the Mekong Delta and the Southeast is at its lowest level in the past 10 years. The large output but slow export situation is due to the control process of banned substances Cadmium and Yellow O.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province recommends that people and growing areas continue to strictly follow the procedures and regulations in durian care to ensure the quality of exported durian.
Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that people and growing areas continue to strictly follow the procedures and regulations in durian care to ensure the quality of exported durian.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to study press reports about "durian still struggling to deal with the problem of Yellow O" when the Chinese market requires 100% of shipments to have Cadmium and Yellow O test results before being cleared through customs.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has conducted a review and decided to remove more than 100 growing area codes and nearly 80 substandard packaging facilities. Major durian growing areas across the country have proposed to set a "red alert" zone for growing areas that violate regulations. At the same time, large-scale sampling has been carried out to assess the level of Cadmium and Yellow O residues.

Faced with that situation, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province continues to recommend that people and growing areas continue to strictly follow the procedures and regulations in durian care, to ensure the quality of exported durian.
