Nearly 250 fencers compete at the 2025 National Youth Fencing Championship

On the morning of May 22, at the Thanh Hoa Provincial Sports Gymnasium, the 14th National Youth Fencing Championship 2025 officially opened. The event was organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa Province in coordination with the Vietnam Sports Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

The Organizing Committee awarded souvenir flags to the athletes participating in the tournament.

This year's tournament attracted nearly 250 athletes and coaches from 8 units including: Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong and People's Public Security.

Athletes competed in three weapon categories: sabre, three-edged sword and sword, with a total of 21 sets of medals awarded in two age groups: 17 years old and 20 years old.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Tu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province emphasized: “The tournament is an important opportunity for localities to evaluate the quality of training and coaching of young athletes, and at the same time discover and nurture promising talents for national high-performance sports. Organizing the tournament in Thanh Hoa also contributes to promoting the image, cultural, sports and tourism potential of the locality to friends across the country.”

The athletes entered the competition immediately after the opening ceremony with dramatic and fierce matches.

In the 17-year-old age group, athletes compete in 6 individual events (men's/women's foil, men's/women's sabre, men's/women's sabre) and 3 mixed team events. The 20-year-old age group competes in 12 events, including 6 individual events and 6 team events, divided equally by weapon type.

The tournament is a practical activity in response to the Campaign "All people practice physical exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" in the period of 2020-2025. Besides its professional significance, this is also a healthy playground, contributing to improving the cultural and physical life of young people and developing the sports movement across the country.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the first matches took place in an exciting and attractive atmosphere, attracting enthusiastic cheers from the audience. The 14th National Youth Fencing Championship 2025 is expected to close on May 30.
