On August 5, B2B food export e-commerce platform Foodil officially launched to users in Vietnam. This platform affirms its mission to become a reliable bridge between Vietnamese exporters and the global buyer ecosystem.

Proactively seek partners to access official channels

Originating from Korea, Foodil is a B2B e-commerce platform that connects Asian food suppliers with the world market.

According to Mr. Kim Hyo Gill - CEO of AFC and Foodil Global, the platform has a cross-border trade network with buyers from 35 countries, including markets such as the US, Mexico, Europe, Africa and the Middle East...

In Vietnam, this platform is officially transferred and operated in Vietnam through LNS Group.

“Through cooperation with LNS Group, we have helped bring a number of Vietnamese food products into Walmart and Costco in Mexico, Colombia and New Zealand, along with many other supermarkets in many countries around the world,” Mr. Kim informed.

Sharing the difficulties of export enterprises and the motivation to operate Foodil in Vietnam, Ms. Jolie Nguyen, CEO of LNS Group, commented that Vietnamese enterprises must change their mindset when approaching international markets, set goals to build brands abroad and not just be satisfied when selling goods through unofficial channels.

“We do not see the consequences of products imported through unofficial channels affecting our quality, quantity and reputation. Do not have the mindset of making things quickly and selling them quickly to have a presence in the market,” Ms. Jolie said.

According to Ms. Jolie, Vietnamese businesses need to take advantage of partners and multi-solution ecosystems to support their journey to penetrate foreign markets.

“The world doesn't distinguish between big and small businesses, but what matters is how we come together,” Jolie added.

Mr. Alejandro Gutierrez, representative of Guval Foods, a food importer from Mexico, confirmed that the Mexican market has demand for products from Vietnam. Guval Foods imports food from Vietnam and redistributes it to other sales channels, including supermarkets in Mexico and the region.

“One of the products from Vietnam that is in high demand is rice paper and rice. We are increasing our imports of these two items a lot,” said Mr. Gutierrez.

Three reasons why Vietnamese goods have not yet gone through official channels

Also present at the launch, many experts in the import-export industry also shared about the limitations that need to be learned from and solutions to help Vietnamese businesses penetrate foreign markets.

Mr. Kris Nguyen, CEO of Ocean Marketing USA, believes that there are three main reasons why Vietnamese businesses have not been able to access official markets in many countries. These include: not investing properly in national brands, not winning quality certifications in markets, and finally being passive and not investing in building local teams.

“Businesses are almost relying on buyers to deliver goods, and have not yet built a strategic team. Vietnamese businesses should be proactive and find the right local support/representative partners on the way to market penetration,” Mr. Kris advised.

In addition, Mr. Kris also emphasized the traceability of each product, as this is a requirement of large supermarkets in the US such as Costco or Walmart.
