Rare Dodge Challenger Black Ghost 2023 production not yet on the road
The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Black Ghost has barely been touched, the HEMI engine under the hood still yearning to be warmed up on the road.

The story goes that there was an original Dodge Black Ghost that originated in the 1970s, right in the heart of Detroit, a bustling city with street racing. A cop by day and a street racer by night, Godfrey Qualls owned a 1970 Challenger R/T SE equipped with a 426 (7.0-liter) HEMI engine. He became famous on Detroit's Woodward Avenue by dominating street races, each time mysteriously disappearing, only to reappear a few months later, earning him the nickname "Black Ghost".
He disappeared completely in 1977, joining the Army National Guard, entering special forces training and receiving the "Green Beret" in the late 1970s, serving in the National Guard until 2002. Godfrey Qualls was never arrested for street racing. He retired from the Detroit Police Department in 2007 after 37 years of service. His Challenger was last registered and insured for street use on March 19, 1976. The car was added to the Historic Vehicle Registry in 2020 after being restored by Godfrey’s son, Gregory. Gregory discovered his father’s street racing history when he passed away. The Historic Vehicle Registry aims to preserve and celebrate America’s automotive culture. In May 2023, the car sold for a staggering $1 million, making it the third most expensive 1970 Challenger ever to come to market. The most expensive was auctioned for $1.8 million in 2016, followed by one that sold for $1.4 million three years later.
This story inspired Dodge to release a special edition Black Ghost in the shape of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye and sell it in a limited quantity of only 300 units. This car is one of those 300. Just 51 miles. That’s how many miles his 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost had on the odometer in 2025. It was clear that whoever bought it two years ago had kept it in the garage, away from the elements, resisting the urge to take it out on the track for fun. The 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI engine under the hood must have been dormant for the past two years, dreaming of coming back to life with 807 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque and a dramatic roar. This car can accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Regarding the maximum speed, Dodge has never released any information on this aspect. We only know that the car uses an 8-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.
This bike features the impressive Black Ghost Special Edition package. This is an option that adds $5,895 to the MSRP and is designed to add a more aggressive look to an already formidable machine. The package makes for a unique look. The car is finished in metallic black over a black interior with leather and Alcantara. The original plastics are still on the driver's seat and steering wheel. The car rides on 20-inch Satin Carbon Warp Speed wheels. As expected, with barely any miles on it, this limited edition 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Black Ghost is in pristine condition and looking for someone who can appreciate its capabilities.
